Price wise it's competing with Mexican Jaguars and Jazzmasters. I might get one in black.

That said it's double the price of the original and I'm not sure finish, neck and vibrato justifies that

I like the roasted maple neck. I have two Reverend guitars with roasted maple necks and these are very stable. Nice feeing also. Interested !

Yep, although the way the non roasted headstock is grafted on looks a bit clunky

Headstock is roasted also but painted indeed. Personally I like the look. There is a scarf joint near the headstock.

Might be a prototype color or a color to come in future: (shown in the Oxnard factory during a dealer tour yesterday).

Maybe the same Pelham Blue they used on the Indonesian-made Starfire Bass?

Headstock is roasted also...
Right, the headstock is roasted as well but I think parker_knoll was looking at some of the stock pictures and refering to the color differences of the used wood. But that seems to depend on the light and on the used batch of wood, the right example looks pretty good to me.

Actually what I also just noticed, both the black I posted above and the blue might be prototypes as they don't have roasted necks as it looks! Look at the sides of the headstocks. So both might show up in future in that local online store that sells such prototypes.

what are the necks like on the originals?
The necks are nice to me, not too big not too small, the frets were rather rough but that is to be expected on a sub $500 guitar. I did the fret dressing myself, a skill I suggest everyone have.
I got a Jetstar as well and the frets were fine, same price range as this new Surfliner.

I like those foot-with-toenailess-big-toe headstocks! Cool!
That's nice that the headstock color is color matched to the body!

Wake me up when they announce the new, flame-burst M85-II or the JS-II re-issue.

Yeah, yeah: I know...
