Smart observation, lungimsam.

I'd say we all agree that US built Guilds would be a much welcomed comeback, especially if they'd sell for less than five Grand... the Good Ole could use jobs and have skilled workers - let's see if our friends at Cordoba will be smart enough to somehow compress their earnings in favor of more accessible prices.

And how about some Mexican Guilds? (No se ofendan, por favor!)

That I didn't know, but it may be the very reason why there will be US Guilds again - doesn't Yamaha still have a
"custom shop" here?

Yes, in Calabasas:
"Yamaha Guitar Development is a boutique custom shop in Calabasas, California, on the western edge of Los Angeles county. Inside, a small team of luthiers build one-of-a-kind acoustic, electric, and bass guitars for an exclusive roster of prestigious artists. The shop is also a research and development facility, creating and collaborating on the designs and technology that drive our production guitars. YGD is located on the same campus as the Yamaha Guitar Group, which houses a strategic marketing team."

I got the import Thayil S-100 today. It's a very good looking instrument; black with gold hardware, the usual features you'd expect, plus a mini toggle. I don't know yet what it does-I'm assuming it's a phase switch-but I'll have to check the Guild website. One feature that I didn't expect was the D-profile neck, which is actually quite comfortable. I haven't plugged it in yet. The truss rod cover has a design on it, as does the back plate, along with a reproduction of Thayil's autograph.

I'm taking it upstairs now to play for a while.

The truss rod cover has a design on it...
The TRC on one he was using had the King Animal logo on it. Wonder if that is the same now.

Oh wow! Always loved Soundgarden/Kim (oh i was there in those years...) and always wanted an s100. Now if the price (and quality) is right, I'll have to get myself one of these!
Please keep us updated with any new info you can give us!

OK, for all you impatient guys, the import version I have is made in Indonesia, and it has a phase switch. The quality is really quite good. I'm not sure yet of the MSRP.

The custom shop USA version will come in white, and will be limited to 30 pieces.

Yes, I'm somewhat limited as to what I can say here. You'll have to read the review in Vintage Guitar when it prints. My deadline is August 10.

Thanks! My NS S-100 Deluxe was made in Indonesia and it's not too shabby.
