Ok, I was wrong. Here's a beaut! "There is an entire chorus line of Gibson blondes in the sale, but perhaps the most eye-catching hollow-bodied guitar is a Guild Starfire II ‘Emerald’."

A hollow-body electric guitar, Starfire II ‘Emerald’. Estimate: £2,500-4,000. Offered in The Mark Knopfler Guitar Collection on 31 January 2024 at Christie’s in London

Wow too bad they only show 12 of 120. That black Adamas almost looks reasonably priced but who knows where the auction will go. What Guilds was he known for?

He wasn't really known for Guild, I guess the Songbird was the only model he was really playing live. Here in 1988/1989 with Eric Claptons band. There are a few videos of those concerts.

Year 2000 on TV at Canal+: (could be a Prestige Classic as it looks) EDIT: See Hans' post #8 below!

Year 2013 in an Italian magazine with a Starfire III (or at least one with a Guildsby):

And a 2014 picture during the recording sessions at British Grove Studios, showing 2 Starfires:

Wasn't there some green starfire that he was excited about. Maybe I missed that going through the 130+ items. :)

The Christie's auction happened in London on 1/31 and here are the results for the two Starfires:

......... which again shows that there are still people with more money in their wallets than brains between their ears!

True, but when it comes to charity auctions of instruments w/ star provenance, I’m all for prices going through the roof. They “should” in no way ever effect real street prices.

As long as the charities aren’t the type w/ NYC high rise headquarters that have millions in annual “administrative” costs, I’m all for it.

True. All those prices on all those axes have only to do with provenance. Christie's estimates were WAY off. Must've been a lot of VERY rich people at that auction. Are the proceeds going to some charity? If so that might explain it. If it's just for Knopfler's guitar provenance, I'm not sure why it pulled such prices.

"Mark Knopfler plans to donate no less than 25% of the total hammer price received, to be split equally between The British Red Cross Society (a charity registered in England and Wales with charity number 220949, Scotland with charity number SC037738, Isle of Man with charity number 0752, and Jersey with charity number 430), Brave Hearts of the North East (a charity registered in England and Wales with charity number 1006247) and the Tusk Trust Limited (a charity registered in England and Wales with charity number 1186533)."
