Re: looking for F512

Sorry, I didn't list with all details. I am brand new with the forum. I am looking for 70's or 80's F512 and willing to pay for $1500-$2500. Maple or Rosewood will be fine, I am hoping for a decent shape. I bought my F50R brand new back in 1978 and looking for the companion for it. Any lead will be appreciated.

Re: looking for F512

I spoke with one of the sale manger at Guild head quarter this afternoon. I told him I am looking for new series of 12 strings and wonder if they are going to make any new guild series of 12 strings such as F612...I asked him I need to know should I wait or buy some now. He was hesitated but he released a quick response that I need to wait for 1 month. I am not sure this is old news to you guys but that I found out today.

Re: looking for F512

Hi Son Le...This could be for sale, I've had it since new and taken good care of it, action is very sweet, and may need a re-set in about 30 years, if continued to have light strings, on it.... The saddle had been shaved a bit, and the saddle is low but...as is should last...seriously...This would be at the high end of your budget, but then again you'd be hard pressed to find one like this in better shape... Its a 1980. You can PM me for more info if required....Joe, Killdeer recently played it, and his eyes glazed over pretty quickly. He had to put it down before his mind dissolved into a complete fog, and he blew the kids inheritance.... Your cell is missing a number or I'd have called you... regards Steffan

Son Le,

I've had Steffan's F512 in my hands and it plays and sounds as sweet as any 12 I've ever experienced. The action is incredibly low and easy, and no buzzing.

Cheers,
Joe

Yes, welcome aboard. The F-512 rocks my world; I'm sure it'll rock yours.

Re: looking for F512

Thank you very much for all the welcome remarks. I feel right at home. I can talk "Guild" all day. My friend is also loves Guild and is debating about buying a new Harford F512 or continue looking for vintage model. Any advise? What do you think about the new Hardford F512. He found a guild store can give him very good deal (brand new F512 for $2000 before tax). He also heard that in October guild will raise all their guitars up $300.

A used guitar will cost substantially less, but the New Hartford model has a real ebony faceplate, open back Gotohs, and a nice abalone soundhole rosette ring. It also has a strap button on the side. A compensated saddle too, among lots of other niceties that you won't get if go back more than, say, 10 years ago. Internally it uses a dual-action truss rod flanked by two carbon rods in the neck, and I think with those changes it is somewhat lighter than its predecessors.

I can only tell you my 2006 Tacoma-built F-512 is a magnificent guitar. It has some of these "recent" mods (compensated saddle). I bought mine new in 2007 for about 15% less than your friend's current store price, but really I think that's not bad. Mine had been further reduced because of time spent on the wall... you never know if that'll happen.

Regarding the used/new choice... With an F-512 you can't go wrong either way. :) Ok, yeah, I'm a little biased. :)

Best wishes, SL.
