For the past few days I've lost all the graphics on LTG. I don't have the banner at the top, all smilies show in text (ie ) and all the info in the left column shows in text. I've tried to refresh, reboot, but as long as I use Firefox everything is text. (I get graphics with Safari.) Any suggestions (besides using Safari)? joan

This is only when I'm viewing the forum list of topics, when I'm in threads graphics show.

You could try going to Tools (Navigation Toolbar in Firefox), selecting Options, and clicking on the Content tab. At the top, make sure that "Load Images Automatically" and the two "Allow Java" options are checked. Not sure if that'll fix it, but worth a try.

If you have any other software that filters content (pop-up blocker, script-blocker, etc.) you may have to list LTG as an exception there, as well.

I get all the banners etc. fine with Firefox, by the way.

I had a similar problem a couple of days ago as well. It only occurred with Firefox. All the graphics were fine in IE. I figured I had set some preference that I did not intend to and could not find.

Since this was on a locked down machine where I am not an administrator, and where I don't have a lot of plugins or customizations, I did the following.

1) Save my bookmarks. Bookmarks->Organize Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Backup Make sure you pay attention to where they were saved.

2) Shut down Firefox.

3) Find your user directory and navigate to the directory containing the Mozilla directory. That was C:\Documents and Settings\MyUserName\Application Data on a fairly standard install of XP, SP3. Obviously you will substutite for "MyUserName".

4) Rename the Mozillia directory to something else, like MozillaHold.

5) Start Firefox. It should ask you questions that only make sense if you have never run Firefox before. Don't import anything yet.

6) Restore your bookmarks using the file created in 1) above.

7) You may have to do some organizing of the bookmarks. You may also have some preferences in Tools->Options that you want to set.

When you are happy with things delete the bookmark file saved in 1) and the renamed directory from 4).

If you have a lot of stored certificates, site specific preferences and saved passwords this might not be your first choice solution because you will lose them all.

This is a manual procedure to create a new profile and then use it as the default for your user account. There used to be a Profile Manager tool to do this kind of thing but it is not installed on this system.

I understand the BB my now be on another server ... don't know if that would make a difference or not ... it shouldn't ... but then .... John

No, I'm on 3.5.5 and I'm also on Mac. This problem just started recently and only on LTG. I couldn't find "options" under Tools but did find info on the page and everything seems to be set correctly. I may upgrade before going through all the steps fronobulax suggested. Strange thing is that within the threads it's just fine, it's when I'm looking at the Board index or just entering a forum that it's messed up. Well, it's also messed up when I'm replying to a post, like now, all the colors on the right have the font colour codes in the rectangles (ie #BFBF00) Joan

That's exactly what I had and what a new profile fixed. Although I note with some chagrin that my response was Windows-centric :(

I wonder about something in the UCP files; in my case the Posting Default options and maybe in your case Display Options. I've manually re-set all of the UCP items and logged out, re-booted, and logged back in to dump the cookie but ... bupkis. :?

More: for a couple of days after the software move, the 'View Active Topics' link didn't work but 'View New Posts' did. Another :?

With FFire 3.5.7/Win2000 (yes, I'll turn out the lights), if I right-click on a smilie, I get an option menu that includes a choice 'Block images from letstalkguild.com'. If I click it; the all the smilies vanish ... no text ... no nothing ... but I get a drop down above with a button offering to return them ... with no questions asked. Any chance these defaults have been messed with?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have everything from LTG unfiltered by AdBlock Plus.
Does that mean filtering is bad? I'm at the end of my rope of useful things to say so I right-clicked the page properties (from a correctly functioning FFire 3.5.7 install) and ..... I have no idea what it means ... but it looks cool ...

Looks faintly like If/Then/Else statements from PL-1 30 years ago ... I'm getting a headache.

Well, I've upgraded to Firefox 3.5.7 for Mac, done a restart and nothing has changed. I get everything on Safari but on Firefox the main lists still don't have graphics. Guess I'll try the 7 step program. Joan

options on this reply screen read
BBCode is ON
is ON
[flash] is OFF
[url] is ON
Smilies are ON

yes the Smilies on the left show as text.

I have an XP machine, 1gig RAM. I've always run Firefox on this site, always updated to the latest version. Never had any problems. Don't know how or why it works, but it does.

I have a bigger RAM, a new video card and Windows 7 sitting here, so when I do the upgrade it will probably all go down the tubes.

Oh yeah, I remember BASIC.

Perhaps it is a Firefox only issue?
I wrote my first BASIC program in 1968. Stored it on paper tape. Date usually freaks people out because most kids in Junior High didn't have a family friend who wrote compilers for General Electric (when they were in the mainframe business) who had a teletype and a blazingly fast 300 baud modem at home.

Given that a new profile fixed the problem for me and that I could simultaneously get the images with IE 6 but not Firefox (on the same computer) I have to believe it is a Firefox issue. Can't tell, though whether it might be a bug or merely an obscure setting we cannot find.

I seem to recall that Firefox was displaying the <Alt> text instead of the images which makes me wonder about accessibility options but I never could find anything that seemed to apply.

Did you say if other sites show graphics?

Go into the "Tools" menu and select "Options".
Click the "Content" tab and hit the "Exceptions" button to
the right of the "Load Images Automatically" option.
You might find that LTG.com got entered into there accidentally.

Well, I can attest that it's not a problem on the LTG server end of things. Last night I browsed LTG from a laptop that I usually don't use, and all the graphics showed up just fine.

4 different notebook computers, 2 XP & 2 Vista (32 & 64) & I use 3 for the internet
and I use Google Chrome browser in all 3.

No problems.

Plenty of problems with Firefox. Try Google Chrome. I love it.

After trying everything under the sun
Really? Did you try just a new profile? A new profile would be a side effect of a complete reinstall. Since that was what worked for me it would be interesting to know whether it didn't work for you or you just didn't try it.

You're right. I tossed in the towel before creating another profile. In the NW, everything under the sun is kinda cloudy.
Not to rain on your parade but I thought Akron OH led the nation with an average 270 cloudy days a year ... not sure if they count the nights too or not .. :?

No problem. One of the other hats I wear is help desk so I always want to know what works or doesn't and whether my instructions are clear or not. Thanks.

OK, I finally took some time to try this but didn't get too far (I'm sure because I'm on Mac, these seem like excellent inhale/exhale directions)
1) found Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks hit dead end, couldn't find Import or Backup. Looked around other places, edit, preferences but no go.
2) no sense in shutting down Firefox...but I do that often.
3) went on a hunt for this thought I might find it in applications folder or perhaps library. Nothing but I did discover the application in the applications folder just has the app, no folders or other files
4)-7) just couldn't get there.

So I've been using Safari or dealing with the text, I'm not ready to reinstall Firefox yet.

I get graphics on all my other sites using firefox, something just got a bit messed up so I'll deal with it until I'm ready to take the time to do a reinstall.

thanks for everyone's suggestions and help. Glad to see I wasn't the only one and others were able to correct the situation. joan
