Smith and P,

I need your help. As my wife and I were watching Bonnie last night, I told my wife that Bonnie's dad was someone famous. Bonnie kept referring to her father last night, but never by name. I can't remember who he was. Can either of you help?

Thank you guys. Bonnie was a little emotional about it. I could not remember and was curious. I appreciate the info.

John Raitt

John Raitt was a phenomenal singer with a long and lauded career. He was very supportive of Bonnie and the two evidently had a very close and strong relationship. I saw them together on TV and at covered events for years. Ironically, I was familiar with John long before I heard of Bonnie as my folks loved show music and caught him on the telly a lot when I was a nipper.

P - Perhaps the reason he reminded you of Frank was the hair and the mustache...O and the nose. Plus, he was a genuine character. I visited his web site recently and the resemblance is even stronger now. Yeah, I liked the tuba stuff, too.

We opened for John Prine a few years back - wow, maybe 25 years now - and he was recovering from alcoholism, but still VERY surly. He was polite to us, but really wanted to be left alone - which we did. It was a good show, but VERY structured and he didn't deviate from his prepared list and appeared to be anxious to be done. Hopefully, he's better now.

When I was in Nashville in the early 80's, one of the members of the publishing team I was signed to was Donny Lowery - Mac Macannally's writing partner (Old Flame, Minimum Wage Love). I met Mac a few times and was always amazed at his humility and calm.

Peace - dbs

Take it from an old Prinehead, he's doing great after fighting throat cancer and quitting smoking. Last few times I've seen him he's been right on with the music and words and he actually had some dialogue with the crowd. My old D-25M has played so many Prine songs the chord progressions are worn right into the fingerboard...

Bonnie Raitt does a great rendition of "Angel From Montgomery" with John Prine. I also love her rendition of Leo Kottke's "Louise". And she can darn sure sing & play the blues!

I understand that Bonnie Raitt learned slide guitar technique from the late great Lowell George of Littlefeat fame. You can hear that influence in her music.

Fan,

I really don't know how we got off on this subject, but I'll try and offer an answer.

I suppose some might look at my wife and think she looks like an older woman. When I married her, she was beautiful and I think most would have agreed to that. Well, she's much older now, but every bit as beautiful to me as she ever was....if not more so.

I think sometimes when we grow older with an attractive woman....Bonnie, she'll always be attractive to us. Yes, Bonnie is older, but there really is more to her than her looks. She's just a great girl and I still think there is something very seductive about the way she plays. I suppose beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder!

I'll agree with that. Speaking of older women...have you heard Kenny Chesney and Dolly Parton. I think she has reached new "peaks"! :p
