{edit}....Ooops..didn't the response!!

I will answer for him.....yes that is Bonnie. My guess is about 1972 when "Give it Up" was out.

Furthermore, I will guess she is singing her cover of the John Prine song "Love Has No Pride"!

Also you could say 1972 because she is playing a D-25 or a D-30.....not yet stinking ritch!!!

Sorry, P - "Love Has No Pride" was performed and recorded by just about everyone, but was written by Eric Kaz (American Flyer) and Libby Titus. A great song, nevertheless. dbs

More Guilds on TV

I just saw a bit of an episode of "Friends" and when I turned the tube on, Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders was sitting in the coffee house those friends hang in. She was playing "Angel of the Morning" on a Guild F-20 sunburst. They didn't show it long, going back out to the characters outside on the street, but it was a nice close-up of the Guild. Pretty cool, huh!

The time period is probably right but the guitar is an F-30. Looks like a big guitar because of the way the photo was taken, but the body shape is definitely an F.

Bonnie Raitt at the James Taylor Tribute

Here is another video I captured of Bonnie Raitt playing her F-50R. This was a tribute concert to James Taylor. Of all the artists who performed, aside from James Taylor, she did the best with one of his songs. I think this was because she actually recorded the song. All the others were likely performing the tribute song for the first time. Bruce Springstein should have just sat there and had dinner. The Dixie Chicks also needed some practice with Shower the People. Bonnie blew away the song and I really got the sense that she can direct the band to get the best result. Here is the link to the video:

I actually thought the Dixie Chicks were pretty on - and I'm not even a big Dixie Chicks fan or anything.

One note, is there some rule that Cheryl Crow must take part in any and all tribute shows and albums?

You might have to click on it to read it better, but I think this is the book.

Well I'm glad that's cleared up. I'll be tuning into BET tomorrow night catch her on the Vibe awards.

Dixie Chicks Shower the People

I thought the voice of the little chick was too loud and her twangy voice sounds like an affectation. She sings a false nasal sort of half-falsetto so she can appear "Dixie". I don't recall that the Carter Family had to do this. Somehow modern country means twang. If you don't twang, you are a folk singer.

I think he actually spoiled a few folks' dinners. But on the other end, how about J.T. and Carole King on "You've Got a Friend?" Lovely moment, a shame they had to spoil it by going to a pledge break.

I agree with your point: Keith Urban for example is from freakin' Australia and he sings like he's from deep in the heart of Texas.

Natalie Maines was born and raised in Lubbock (or leave it), Texas - so it's a little easier for me to stomach the twang in her case. The Carter's were from Virginia. Plus she's the daughter of Lloyd Maines and that's pretty cool too.

I can't believe I'm sitting here defending the Dixie Chicks. I'm not even a fan or anything. I guess I just sort of view them as so much easier to stomach than so much of what falls under "country" these days.
