When I had Kim rebuild my D40 I figured the original price of the guitar plus the cost of the fix represented my investment in the instrument and compared that to the cost of replacing it. That way I figure I saved about a grand. Plus I now have an all original keeper. I'm wickid happy with the results. :)

Hi,Kim.I'd like to have you take a look at my '66 D-40 which I've had for about 3 years now.My tech replaced the tuners, did a refret and a few tweaks and it is a great old player. The saddle is pretty low and she's gonna need a neck set down the road. Are you in a position to have people bring a guitar to the tour?I'd be willing to leave it w/you of course.I really want to get your opinion in how much is left before the reset is a necessity. Thanks in advance for your time in reading this.By the way,it's great to have the factory repair shop up and running in Connecticut.

Contact Kim directly. He doesn't read this thread that often.

That said, what he told me was that i could drop off a guitar at the factory tour but we would have to have paperwork in order before I did so. He implied, although did not say directly, that he would NOT be able to have something "just looked at" to generate an estimate and return the guitar the same day. Since his estimates are based upon a shop rate he can certainly give you a quote for a whole bunch of stuff and discuss what actually gets done after you have dropped it off. Given Kim's personal involvement in LMG I would consider it unreasonable to ask him to look at a guitar on Friday, if only because doing so would deprive LMG of his presence.

Thanks for pointing this out. it clarifies what to expect on the tour day.

I don't really understand what was clarified, but to be clear, Kim is a Fender employee and, based on LMG I and II, his job for October 5 will be to make sure that LMG III goes smoothly and not to operate and manage the Repair Shop.

Having a repair shop for our old guitars is great news! A few folks in NYC just do not want to touch a neck reset job on an old guild, for reasons I think we're pretty familiar with - as in, it ain't a fun job. My '69 F312 staved off the need for one a few years ago (at the cost of shaving a gorgeous brazilian rosewood bridge, argh!) but someday i'll need to bring it in for one (the string break angle over the saddle is so shallow that sometimes i can get the lighter strings to jump their grooves), and probably a new bridge then too, and there's a bit of binding separation on the back. Not quite a must do yet, but someday, and hopefully the shop will still be offering this service at that time.

My Starfire VI? Honestly my own blood sweat and tears got it up and running as a working man's axe, but if I ever want to bring her to the ball, it'll need to go to Hartford too. This one, I bet will be a fun one for you all- needs a new nut, maybe a neck reset or untwist the neck a bit, a new coat of nitro, make certain the electronics are all solid and so on. I'd love to see how it would look with the flame totally on, shot with some clear/natural nitro!

I recently took my 1976 D50 to Kim and crew for a new bridge and some cosmetic repairs. The luthier up there is Chris, and I have to say he did a fantastic job on it. I highly recommend anyone needing work on their Guild to bring it to Kim.

Here is a link to Kim looking at the guitar at LMG-III.

Kim and Chris, I cannot thank you enough!!! Not only did you do such terrific work, but you are both the nicest people.

Do we know how long the wait list is? Are you still excepting repairs? I am thinking about sending my 1971 d40NT up there. I will be driving through Feb. 8th. I will put together an email and send it to you.

Thanks

Jon,
Kim had mentioned to contact him directly at the Guild factory through email (kkeller@fender.com). See page 1!
He might not read your message here at LTG.

Yep, that's how I did it. Emailed Kim directly, chatted about the work a bit via email, Kim said ship it over and gave me a number to put on the box so it gets directed to the right place, and I sent it in. Next step is actually looking at it in person over there, then a chat about what's needed and an estimate. I believe after that, you get the timeframe according to whatever needs to be done.

I'll be interested in seeing how it all goes. I may have at least one guitar that needs to go in for work.

I had the neck reset on my '64 F-212, took about a month, great job, although it cost about 3 times what the guitar did in '65
I'm tempted to take my F-50 in for a reset, there's almost no saddle on it, but it's been like that since I bought it (third hand) around 1980. Plus I use it more than any other six-string.
Again, great work and reasonable amount of time to do it in.

My D40 was the first official repair to go through the NH shop. unfortunately I don't have any pics cause either they didn't take any or they didn't keep any. They did a neck reset, new frets and reset the bridge. They were able to use the same bridge so my guitar is still original. It was in and out of the shop in a matter of a few weeks. I can tell you I am more than happy with the results. There are very few material items I own that mean much to me but my D40 is one of them. Here's a guarantee, no one will work on it but Kim and his shop.
