Hello all.

I think I am a Guild fanatic...

I didn't even know what a Guild was, having been brainwashed into thinking a Martin or Gibson or Taylor was the best one could get..
And being too poor to go buy one of those, I got by for 20 years or more with el-cheeeeeepo acoustics and borrowed low mid level stuff.
Always been an acoustic guy, I love electric rock too, but electric guitars feel flimsy and I feel like I'll break them...being so used to man-handling the acoustics..

Then one day I was waiting to get an inspection sticker for my car and ran into a friend who was there for the same reason..
In shooting the shyte, he said he was headed to the pawn 25 miles upstream to see if he could get $25 out of an old guitar he had in the trunk...
Naturally, I had to see it...
And I almost cried.. ..the thing was under wrenches, empty beer cans, had mildew started, it was heart breaking..I looked it over, and offered him $20, telling him he'd spend the other $5 from the pawn on gas getting there and back..
So he took it, and I went home with the sad creature. I never even looked at the make...it didn't seem to matter at the time, as I just wanted to save the thing from a fate worse than death.

After I cleaned it up, got the mildew off, scrubbed the beer off, changed the strings and all that...I realized it was a Guild. Still didn't mean anything to me at that point.
Then I strummed a few chords...

Woooooooooooowwwww..

I looked at it again with new eyes...and did a bit of investigating.. :?:

I had a $20 1977 Guild D25M....COOL!

After some more research, I began to understand what it really was, and how much respect it had among true guitar people. :D

That was 2 years ago now, and I play it every single day..It sounds amazing, and a Guild certified tech looked it over and said it was in fine shape and I should abandon the idea of re-finishing it....
(It's WELL worn as far as the wood goes, thanks to the idgit that used to own it..but the neck and frets are in great shape)

So, a few weeks back I decided to look for forums where I could talk to other acoustic types, with an emphasis on Guilds.

And here I am. I also joined up at AGF, but I think this place will be more my speed...

And now I am searching for more Guilds to add to my pitiful collection of orphan guitars..A nice D40, D55, and a Peacock would be good as a start!

Welcome. All things Guild spoken here. Sounds like you got a great deal on a really nice model Guild.

Another Guild rescued! Way to go, Dub! You started out with a nice one, my '76 is a real battleax, it's got thousands of hours on it and still rings like a bell :D

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome!

I know where there was a Guild acoustic for sale, saw it in a yard sale about 4 years ago...but it was priced at $900, so it didn't sell, I am sure...I was there at the end of the day and the owner said he'd had lots of admirers but no money was shown...

This one had curly maple sides and back, and I think even the top, but perhaps it was "bearclaw" spruce...it also had incredible inlays on the neck, birds if I recall right..like a PRS...but it wasn't a PRS..
The guitar was a "special" for sure, and I feel confident it would be a $5000 guitar today...I want to say it was around a 1979-80...

Does this sound like any Guild you have heard of? I honestly can't recall if it was a dread or what...it was a 6 string..

I will go back up there THIS afternoon I think...I'm willing to bet it's still there...If it is, I will put a deposit on it and take a few pics for you all.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Welcome and great story. Like others said, the D25 is a workhorse. Not a looker but will get the job done better than others. They are tough as nails. We would love to see those beer stains on that beater.

Welcome again (see your other thread on models)! A D-25 is a great place to start a collection of Guilds... but based on mine and others experience, it won't be your last!

Welcome to LTG land. As you've already figured out you did real good on scooping up the D25. Very nicely done.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. hey, you spent 25 for a 25 how ironic. I know you only shelled out 20, but that wouldn't of worked for my humorless attempt at some humor. Congrats and we need to see some pics
Hope you got some money saved, you'll need it if you hang around here

The D25M is a true classic. A great intro to Guild.
