Kinda, sorta.

There is a discussion of NAMM here that includes talk about the one displayed at the show, speculation as to the availability and ending up with a fairly reliable statement that they only made 15 of them and there were more dealers than that who wanted one.

@Frono: The one that Rocky sells shows 11 of 18 on the label, so it sounds like the total build volume of this GSR was 18. If all 18 were for sale is a different question, maybe what Bing said (the 15) was what dealers were able to order.

But let's close the discussion here and continue here:

I figured you guys would know what is going on - x

Things I like - straight grained spruce laminate - very nice looking
- Seth Lovers - nice

Things I don't like - Gold Hardware
- White around F holes -
- Pick Guard - are you kidding me - come on.

Strip the bling, Nickel Hardware, a proper pick guard - WOW!

It's not a Starfire IV (4), as the subject shows, it is a "GSR Starfire VI" (6) !

thanks I have been corrected on many levels. build it my way, add a harp tail, a stepped pick guard, call it a IV, and its good to go except the body.

it seems closer to a 330 than a 335 to me. just not going to work will need to be corrected. why does fender do that?

apologies for the veer, but why is the stepped pickguard more well liked? It's my impression that earlier Guild electrics from the 60s had the rounded guards (which IMHO looks better). Is there some story behind it that I'm not aware of? Or just a matter of personal taste?

@ iismet: You probably could also ask why a Mercedes SL from 2012 looks different to a Mercedes SL from 1968...

Why does Mercedes do that?
Obviously because there are buyers, and Guild as any other company, needs to be profitable and needs to find a way to produce it at a price that buyers are still willing to pay, it's expensive anough anyway. And this "GSR Starfire VI" series is already sold out! So unless you get one of the 18 from one of the few dealers, who were lucky to get one, you will not be able to buy one anyway.

But the good news might be that Guild might consider to continue to do electrical guitars as the new Guild webpage also indicates (see the other thread about new Guild webpage).

 Ralf

You can buy all of Guild with that money and let them build whatever Guitar you dream about :)

No seriously, you bring up a very intersting point that we have not yet discussed!
Yes, you are right, it shows: Laminated Spruce top, Laminated Figured Maple back !

Old Aristocrats had laminated spruce tops, or?
What about Starfire I, II, II?
But I think no Starfire IV, V or VI!

Interesting point!

Most Guild electric archtops have been made with laminated spruce tops but you don't see too many from the Starfire series.

Here's a nice Starfire II with a laminated spruce top:

Hamer Newports which did/do come out of the same factory also have spruce tops, though the Newport is a smaller, double cut, full hollowbody.

But what we are talking about is this - with a middle man that knows neither ( my corona is a delight though).

Yes I do hope they will continue, but not as Gibson knock offs. Guild is Guild - it's heritage and quality needs to continue close to it's roots.

so it got a massive spruce top.

well, I believe it should sound great. if I had the bucks I'd definately consider one of these.
my nightingale also got a massive spruce top, mahogany neck and ebony fretboard. and with the HB-1's she's got a tone to die for.

but:
I don't like that it hasn't got the original shape.
older SF-6 with HB-1's or minis are more easy to get and a lot cheaper.

did anyone ever play the gsr?

Has anybody contacted Guild to see if they will sell that new vintage pickguard separately? If not I'll give them a call to see if they might be willing to sell them. jim in Maine

Jim: Sure, it can't hurt to ask them if you have a contact there. But remember, the "GSR Starfire VI" is a very limited run of only 18 guitars in total, so they might not have any spare pickguards and most probably might not want to sell any spare parts (they probably keep a handful for any repair or so). So far we don't know of any future production model for a electrical guitar.
