So Saturday I was checking out the $949.00 X 350 and 175, hadn't seen that the green Starfire III had an earlier post about it's price drop. Thought I'd check and sure enough there were 5 at that price. While I was doing my best to talk myself out of one, I looked into the time payment plans as property taxes I'd just paid ate 4 grand a few days before. Going back to the page there were now just 4! I didn't need the guitar, trying to stay with vintage stuff ensures a quasi limit to what I will buy, but I knew if I didn't buy one I'd be kicking myself
as it looked as if the Korean Guilds were at their end of production. So then there were 3!

I got a call today from "Jason", my new rep from Sweetwater telling me what a great deal I'd gotten. Yeah, I know, I thought. Then an hour ago I saw a notice from eBay that the
price had dropped again to $799.00. And checking, it was of course sold, as were the others on the Sweetwater site. So I might have saved another $150, but realistically by the time
I would have found out about the lower price I wouldn't have had guitar one. Kismet, I tells ya! Anyway, it's supposed to arrive Monday. At any rate, it will be a companion to my
black 97 Starfire II.

I just ordered a blue X175 at $949 (it's supposed to arrive today!), and this morning saw a post on the original thread that they were marked down further to $799. Oh well, just enjoy the guitar!

Call them back and tell them you want the new price. If they don't give it to you, tell them you'll be returning the one you have and buying another one at the new price!

Sweetwater (I think) seemed to be clearing out their stock; maybe that's what you're referring to... In any case, we still do not have actual confirmation that the Korean NSs are going away.

I was mainly thinking about the fact that the green version was supposed to be a Sweetwater exclusive, and once they sold out there would be no more.
I'm really not upset about the cheaper price--if I hadn't bought mine when I did I'm sure I would have missed out completely--I wouldn't have been monitoring their site 24/7. An antique wholesaler I used to buy from in the 70s would periodically have a sale where the prices would go down a certain percent each day. One could wait, hoping a desired piece might be had for even cheaper, but at a certain point you realized skinflints missed out on the
the good stuff.

So I had to wait for a day with sun to bring out the green on the Starfire III. I thought I would also take a photo with my '97 Starfire II. I played the III in front of my shop Sunday for a couple of hours with Mary Fleener the underground cartoonist, one of my groups former bass players, and in whose band I played uke and steel guitar 12 years ago. Overall I like the SF III, but not too crazy about the frets. Not as obnoxious as those fat wide ones on my NS Aristocrat, but still higher than I like. I suppose
it has something to do with the fact that so many of my '30s instruments have low skinny ones, or I can ignore them all together
except as markers on my square neck guitars. The Guilsby is nice, but I still prefer the Tremar on my Polara and Jetstars. I like the PUs, and of course if this only had the original type DeArmonds I could really overlook the frets! Would a Bigsby bridge replacement be an improvement? This seems to need retuning after using the whammy bar unlike my Hagstrom Tremars.
Logically I need to get a real '60s era SF II or III next...

Good looking Guild! Whenever I have issues with the guitar not returning to tune with the bigsby I wind up swapping out to a roller saddle bridge and it completely cures the issue. Hope you enjoy it for a long time.👍

It's amazing how the guitar looks black until you get it into some bright light.

Those are nice looking guitars and a great color! Story of my life...whatever I'm buying always goes on sale right after I buy it :)
