The Guild Gods have smiled upon me and placed a superb deal on a 1972 F112 before me that I was in a position to accept. She’s serial #75038, nice straight neck, 2mm at the 12th, original case. Surface scratches and crazing but no splits or cracks. She’ll make a great companion for my ‘79 D25M. She’ll be here later this week so you can bet on plenty of pics and thorough first impressions!!

Any comments from those of you who have one would be most welcome!

I think the 02 stamped on the brace means this was a factory 2nd at the time, Shawn. Although mostly I've seen that stamped into the headstock, not on a brace. So.... Not sure. And, it's meaningless anyway for a guitar this old.

It looks beautiful. Looking forward to a real NGD thread when you get it!

Oh, and even though the label doesn't say it, it was built in Westerly. I don't have my bible around to check the 1972 date, but I'm guessing that's right.

Just curious, though, if you know….what would a factory second have indicated back then? Any number of things?

I believe you’re correct about it being from Westerly, as well. ‘72 too late for Hoboken, right?
Yup, way too late.

I was wondering about that, in addition to the other stamped numbers below the serial itself.…
We've seen that before too, Shawn. I don't know what those mean. I don't know if they had 3rd party sales (like MIRC) back in '72, but it could be some other vendor's stamp. Dunno.

Well, whatever the mystery of the numbers, I’m grateful to have it! Can’t wait to strum/pick some Denver, Lightfoot, and Simon and Garfunkel on it!

I don't really know what that implied (from that long ago), Shawn, but it usually means that there was some sort of blemish that the factory didn't want to fix. Perhaps @hansmoust knows... Again, I'm not 100% sure of this (except that it's a Westerly at that date).

Best wishes.

Congrats, that’s a very nice looking old F112. The F112 excels at finger style and has a sweet voice. It’s also very comfortable to play. I hope you enjoy it.

In the Zeitgeist of my musical wheelhouse that production year:

John Denver released “Rocky Mountain High”
Joni Mitchell released “For The Roses”
James Taylor released “One Man Dog”
Jim Croce released “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim”
Harry Chapin released “Heads & Tales” and “Sniper and Other Love Songs”
Gordon Lightfoot released “Don Quixote” and “Old Dan’s Records”
Dan Fogelberg released “Home Free”

That guitar is in good musical company

Did you notice the stamp on the label?

Awesome. No, Ralf. I was drawn to the 02 on the back brace, which I'm not sure if I've seen bbefore. But, there you go. No doubt about it being a factory 2nd. And, again, to Shawn that is not even worth a second thought at this point, just fun to know.

I do love unique history to an instrument! Once I get it and take more detailed pics, its evident this one has lots of stories…
