I can hear the difference in the demo and I, like walrus, can hear the difference when I change mine. The old strings don't sound horrible. But they have a way more BRITTLE sound. That's the way I'd describe it. Harsher and more brittle. The new strings had a fuller and warmer tone. To ME.

I could hear a difference in the video, but it was not as dramatic as I would have expected. When I change my own strings, it is like night and day.

Which is worse: changing strings or changing diapers?
I HATE changing strings but boy I'm sure happy afterwards.

If you think about it, the same could be said about diapers. And it is not just you that is happy.

String choices make a dramatic difference in the sound of a guitar. There is nothing else you can change (easily) on a guitar that even remotely comes close to making such a difference. I find that the hunt for the "right" string is an enjoyable process for each guitar.

What's really interesting with new vs. worn (same) strings is how differently people feel about that. I'm on the "new" side of the fence, but I will also admit that I hate the feel and smell of old strings (uh oh, here comes the diaper analogy again) and that may color what I hear somewhat.

Speaking of colors.....
OK, I won't go there.
I will say that I think my faves the EJ-16 D'Addarios come into their own after about an hour of playing in and the next 40-50 are the best. After that they start losing a lot of sustain and under/overtones, probably from being pretty well notched up at the fret lines.

Strings and sweaty hands....

I enjoy the process of changing out my old strings for a new set. It is relaxing and meditative.
I recently switched from Elixir Nanowebs phosphor bronze to GHS phosphor bronze strings.
I am very pleased with their performance. I have to change out strings about every 6 weeks.
My hands sweat alot while playing. Consequently my strings tend to get gritty, lose the brassy color
and the tone begins to lose its warmth and brightness.
Anyone else have an issue with sweaty palms whilst playing guitar ?

I agree. I have a process and following it allows me to relax and enjoy giving my guitars a bit of care. And I definitely can hear the difference with the new strings.
