How much is too much? We love when there's multi-line binding, but can there be too much?

Saw this in this morning's Instagram feed from one of the Benedetto builders. I'm not sure I like this many white/black lines.

If it gets a sunburst finish, maybe the W-B-W-B-W......... (I can't count that high) binding won't be so prominent. Definitely overkill on a natural top. Maybe the customer requested it that way. Or maybe Bob is having a little joke with his Guild heritage. :D

Multi-layer binding doesn't bother me much. It invites a closer look to see the craftsmanship. Abalone, like on a -41 or -42 becomes a little much. Where it really gets bad is when the abalone goes around the fingerboard, like a -45.

Rocky,
Agree about the Abalone on the -41, -42, and -45.
For me, the binding on my Martin D-28 is in the "Goldilocks zone".
Neither too much, nor too little. But just right.

My favorite binding is the combination of white and tortoise shell on my D18 David Crosby Signature. Bling done just right!

The binding actually looks sedate next to that shirt.

Jorma himself, while not bound, does look a bit toasted...

Sidebar: I bought that exact guitar strap with my first electric, a Coral/Danelectro "Firefly", in 1968. OK...well...not that exact same strap, but an identical one.

This is the body binding that is my personal bench mark for "looks wrong".

Your results may differ, but I doesn't like it:

Another of my personal quirks is I prefer completely unbound necks.

There: cast me into the wilderness and shun me...

Looks like it gets deliberately thicker there as well!
Well, IIRC, the 'inside' of the top and bottom binding are parallel to each other. It gets thicker in the cutaway due to the arch in the top (and back?) of the body. That's true of 1968 and later Les Pauls (non-historic), but not to such an exaggerated degree.
