Well if it's on Facebook it must be true.southernGuild said:Tonight, Paul Simon posted the following message on his Facebook page:
Oops cant link it. But Paul essentially said Garfunkel was part of S+G, and a very talented musician and producer in his own right.....and that the joke was not funny.
Art Garfunkel has yet to comment."

How much of a difference would this have on the tone? I have heard that brazilian rosewood is the creme de la creme, but is also very rare now.

DCannon said:Just an observation.... I've heard most of Paul Simon's recordings after S&G, and I've never heard any of his guitars sound as good and readily identifiable as his Guilds. Such a wonderful, unique sound. I wonder whatever happened to those guitars, especially the F-30R Special #2 that was such an integral part of the S&G sound. I was listening to The Boxer, Mrs. Robinson, etc today and man!...what a great sounding guitar.

It really wasn't even funny either.southernGuild said::wink:No Facebook user here either. I just have'nt felt the need.
But Here's the link. I found this info on the American songwriter site.
No facebook needed.

The technique of getting that string sound of the quick F# A B C# E F# run at the beginning and elsewhere in "Mrs. Robinson" is simply incredible. I've tired and can't duplicate that bright, deep snappy "metal" plucking sound. Amazing. I was just listening to it again today....over and over.adorshki said:Especially "Mrs Robinson".DCannon said:I was listening to The Boxer, Mrs. Robinson, etc today and man!...what a great sounding guitar.
Do you know if it's on "Me And Julio..." too?
Yes, you definitely need an F-30R. Just make it a goal. :wink:theactor19 said:ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! I need an f-30r!!!!!
sorry, but whenever I read new posts in this thread, I wish even more that I had a guild
Yeah we're worse than the corner pusher who lets you have the first coupla bags for free, hah?theactor19 said:ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! I need an f-30r!!!!!

It's a good plan, as far as having the time to do whatever you do, "your way".theactor19 said:hahhaha.
Well getting the Guild F-30R is the plan, but I don't think I will be able to fund it until June, maybe July. So still a 2-3 months away.
I'm still undecided if I should pick up a new F-30R, or hope another vintage F-30 special comes on ebay, which could well be never.
Two-to-three months isn't that long. But I can pretty much guarantee you're not going to find an F-30R Special like Simon's with Brazilian rosewood. If I were you, I'd be realistic and go for something like this when funds are available:theactor19 said:hahhaha.

I think the real reason for ebony boards on acoustics at least, is that being so hard it's more resistant to flexing/twisting/gouging. Basically helps create an instrument with a longer anticipated useful life by having a stronger neck. In fact you frequently see them combined with 3-piece necks which are definitely built that way for stability.theactor19 said:In regards to the new F-30Rs not having Ebony fretboards... years ago I played a classical guitar that had an ebony board and it just had the most incredible feel to it. That being said, it was an $8,000 guitar.. so the feel probably had a lot to do with the excellent craftsmanship.
