Hi gmc...,

Yes they did. For a short while the first reissues (black bezels) came with bracketed black guards.
Then Guild, in their infinite wisdom, decided a pickguard kit should be shipped with the guitar for the owner to install.
Obviously this could easily create a ton of user errors in installation, and a potential headache for warranty issues. Thankfully, the idea was short-lived.

I've got a 95 Bluesbird for sale here in Australia. It has the aforementioned pickguard, still not attached. I'd rather keep it with the guitar to help with the sale, but when it sells I can ask new owner if he wants to sell it you.
I don't know what a reasonable price would be though. Any thoughts?

Well, it cost me about $1850 to land it here in Aus about 4 years ago after shipping, duty and GST. It is currently on consignment at a local dealer for $2999 (recently reduced - that's retail for you!) and if it sold through them I'd clear about $2200.
But selling it within the LTG community would be another matter. Especially as I am on the lookout for a vintage S-100, ideally in white. I'm thinking in terms relative to what I can get an S-100 for (not working at present - probably an interesting story for another time). Might you be interested at the right price?

I, for one, (and only one  ), think that it is a shame to conceal only one square inch of such a beautiful chunk of wood, when adorned by the flames effect.
Mine is free to roam around naked in my house As I said here before: viewtopic.phpf=36&t=22875&p=248350&hilit=bluesbird+naked#p248350

I did see one sell for about $1400 on eBay a few months ago. It was a recent Fender made one, not quite as pretty as mine but still a very good guitar. I thought that was a disappointing price for the seller considering what it costs to import one and it was the first one I'd seen listed in Australia. The exchange rate gain over the last few years has been pretty much offset by freight costs.
There does not seem to be a very high awareness of electric Guilds here. There are some people who understand how good they are, but many seem to think of them as second-rate Gibsons, which all of us here would disagree with. Maybe that will change in the future with the growing "international-ness", forums like LTG and so on.

That's weird. Anyway I was referring to a conversation we had on the subject of Bluesbird pick guards in a thread titled "Coastie's B-Bird" over in the "Member's Music" forum... but don't get too excited, the naked content is very limited. :?

Oh, I see, I thought it was naked bluesbird pics. I've since found a couple of your links to youtube vids, which I've actually watched before. Fantastic playing. And very satisfying naked action from the guitars. But your playing blows me away.

On bit of a veer, I'm on the hunt for an S-100 and was tending to favour the later models with the tail-stop closer to the bridge. I've read some comments that an E string can pop out of the roller bridge, but less so with the later ones. I also suspected that they might have a better feel for "bendy" playing.
Clearly you have no issues with bendy playing, but have you ever had an E string pop off?

Where are you, Gary? I seem to remember West Coast, South Island?

Yes. Runanga just out of Greymouth.

No mate, not in the market. I was just curious what value you'd place on a 'birdie in the Oz market.

I've realised I was confusing myself about the pricing. It is retail listed at $2,299, not $2,999. And it needs a cosmetic repair to the neck. So if I can break even on getting into an S-100 I'll count myself fairly fortunate.

Do you have any thoughts on prices one could reasonably expect in NZ?
I've picked up that you have one too, but I haven't been able to find photos on the forum. Can you tell me where to find?
