Hi folks. Hooe someone here can answer my question. The folks at Guild.com suggested this site because they don’t have the pertinent info available on my guitar.

Here goes…

I own a JF65 jumbo acoustic 6-string which was gifted to me around 1985-6. Wanted to find out the exact year of manufacture and the approximate value, if anybody here happens to know.

Here’s the label on the guitar, as best as I can make it out:

JF65- “MAMBERG?”
JF650007

Not sure about the “Mamberg” spelling. That’s as close as I can get. Assuming it’s the luthier’s name.
I’m venturing a guess that the “0007” might mean it was the 7th one in production, but I ain’t sure about that either.

The guitar sounds great, Pristine condition except for some minor wear on the back of the neck.

Appreciate any info, educated guesses, conspiracy theories, dispositive proof, ….or whatever else ya got in regard to my inquiry.

Thanks everybody. Happy holidays to you and yours….and keep on rockin’.

Hey Loud, welcome to LTG. There will be people along shortly with all the info you could ever want! It'd be great if you can could post a photo! Also, take a pic of the label so we can figure out that word..... it might be some form of Amber Burst. Is it a burst finish? Or natural. And M can sometimes mean Maple. Again, photos rock!! (y)

Hello Loudmusic,

Welcome! Your guitar was indeed the 7th instrument of the series and it was completed during the year 1987.
The suffix after the model designation is most likely 'M' for Maple and 'Amber', which was the finish color.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hans. My sincere thanks for the info, amigo. I’ll see if I can post a couple photos of the guitar for your dining and dancing pleasure…as you recommended. If you wanna venture a guess at its current value, have at it.

I kind of like Mamberg.
In a better world, MAMBERG would have been the correct answer.

I think I deserve at least PARTIAL credit.

Guess this is why HBO never ran a documentary series about my skills as a detective.

Nice guitar! If you want some idea of current value you can look up the sold listings for that model on Reverb.com and Ebay
No info on reverb or Ebay. All I could find was a 1998 model for about $2G. And it looks like Guild is planning a reissue next year at about $4G suggested retail.

Not planning on selling mine any time soon. Just morbid curiosity on my part.

See the link below. Only a couple of six string JF-65s on reverb.com's sold listings but that will give you some idea.

Hans and company, here are some photos of the guitar. As I noted above, there's some wear on the back of the neck. The case is the original hard shell. Awaiting replies from the home office! Thanks, folks!

Looks like a really nice one! From that neck wear you can see someone has been enjoying it! : ) In my book that kind of neck wear is always the sign of a good guitar.

Welcome to LTG! Very nice guitar!
That label is hard to read indeed...

What used to be a JF-65 is now called F-55, so the model is already in production since a few years in Oxnard.

Think I once got a lap dance from an exotic dancer named AMBER BURST.

Not completely sure. I was pretty drunk that night.

I notice what looks like a comma between the M and Amb… Mahogany amber?
