Jim, does a can of Copenhagen cost $5.00?

When I quit, I was pissed off because the price had gone up to a buck a can. :x

Quitting dipping was harder than quitting smoking but it gets easier as you go and I really never have the desire anymore. Never crosses my mind. Even while we're on the subject I don't have any hankering to start back.

Stick with it Jim. Your dentist will give you a gold star on you next visit.

George

Nah, my dentist wouldn't be too impressed....he dips snuff too.....he actually started before I did. :) My oldest son is named after my dentist and I've known mi dentista for about 50 years.

You know you guys actually have me thinking about this objectively. My guess is that my world is very different from most of yours and probably much more rural. For example, there are 2-3000 folks where I work, and the second in command dips snuff like it's going out of style. In this neck of the woods, odds are pretty good that if you're a man and sometimes even a woman, and a tobacco user, you dip snuff or chew tobacco. I've never seen a demographic on how many folks around here dip/chew vs. smoke, but I'd guess more use smokeless than smoke.

And yes George, about $5.00/can, but I'm thinking of going to Qvart's store and buying mine 2 fer $8.00  .

Might be a "southern region cultural thing", like the original NASCAR fan base, which maybe not-so-coincidentally had some pretty heavy sponsorship from the "Skoal Bandit" back in the day?

Maybe if you buy a case he'll offer free shipping?

I've had many conversations with people about how to kick a habit like nicotene, or how to make any kind of change in behavior they feel the need to make. It all boils down to one thing: In the end you have to have something you want more than what you're doing. It's not enough to want to stop one behavior. You have to want to do something else more. And the more the two are mutually exclusive the better.[/size]
I've heard it explained that "Change occurs when it is less painful to change than to remain the same."

Major changes that I have made in my life came about by an extreme desire for the change and determination on my part. They were not easy, they were extremely difficult. When it came to smoking, I was tired of it and I knew it was not good for me. So I made the effort to stop. You'll stop doing something when you make up your mind not to do it any more. At least, that works for me. Once my mind is made up.... it happens. It's called DETERMINATION.

Oh yes, I would agree, I just haven't become determined. I still enjoy it too much.

Actually, that nice glass of wine you have there looks quite palatable Tom........think I'll have one this evening and won't look much beyond that.

Consider something local from Texas. I especially enjoyed their Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot

There are some fabulous Texas wines Frono, several wineries in the Hill Country, but a few right around here, and even some in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

I like Becker wines from outside Fredericksberg, but locally, I really like Los Pinos and Enoch's Stomp. My favorite wine of all comes from Los Pinos and is called "Grand Reserve Meritage". Very tasty......dry but not bitter, smooth and fruity. Order a couple bottles and tell me what you think. I do think they are limited to shipping to just a few states.

This is a shot from Enoch's Stomp, a local winery that we visited a few weeks ago.......very good wines also.

Fun thread veering.....from smoking and quitting smoking to snuff and now to wine....the latest precipitated by the avatar of Tom holding a glass of wine.

Cover lots of ground and leave no stone unturned.

I like Tom's avatar picture, and now we've covered almost all of the vices. Hey man, what can I say....couped up around the house for two weeks, can't drive, can't get comfortable enough to read a book, but I can get my head situated in this high backed office chair comfortably enough to waste time on this computer.

I used to smoke, stopped smoking and starting dipping Copenhagen, then quit Copenhagen and starting smoking again.

I remember in boot camp we weren't supposed to dip. But lots did. We were issued cans of Never Dull, which is a polishing substance that looks like insulation. We would empty them out and use them for spit cans. The Dipping Lamp is Lit!!

Finally quit...except now I chew nicotine gum fairly regularly. It's better than smoking or dipping. I think seeing a picture of the tumor in my Mom's lung was the clincher..not counting all the relatives I had who have died of lung cancer.

The best advice you can give any youngster is to never start using any tobacoo products. That way you'll never have to quit. My son doesn't use tobacco, and if I catch my grandkids using, I will personally kick their a*ses up and down the street.

Every once in awhile I get an urge to make a pot of coffee, and go burn a Marlboro out on the front porch. But it goes by pretty quick. I wish I had all the money I dropped on tobacco...

It always catches me off guard when I'll talk to someone in their 20's or so who lights up or takes a dip or a chew and as you begin to talk, they'll say....."I just smoke 1 a day, or I dip about once every two days." On the one hand, anything you offer in trying to get them to stop is considered hypocritical, and rightfully so. On the other hand, you know the irresistable pull of addiction and you hate to see anyone succomb to something that is so avoidable at the time.

Congrats on quitting,
