😲 That seems to be one of the first guitars that left Tacoma!!! Maybe made for NAMM 2005 ?
I also would see it as a "I" and not a "J" behind the T.

Here are other examples from 2005 and 2006:

I managed to finally find one. The black version is impossible to find. Long story. I had a new saddle installed and LR baggs element put in. Amazing guitar ! Cheers all. Now only a jumbo on my wish list 😂🤦🏻‍♂️
I also had been trying to find one for a number of years and I finally located a black one in Canada. Rufus Guitar Shop in Vancouver, who was really cool about working with me, because there were a few hiccups along the way, due to miss information given to me by people at Reverb. The model I got was a 2015 and although I do have other D 40s this one is really nice. And then I went on a roll and my latest Guild is a ‘71 pearwood D 44. I played Guilds for about 25 years and then for some reason I was playing Martin’s quite a bit on the road and in the studio. But I have rediscovered my love of Guilds. This is a ‘73 Sunburst D 35 (next to a 70 Gibson J 50. Shhh… don’t wrap me out for putting a picture of the Gibson here.

Both of those are fantastic ! As far as the black havens model they truly are really rare. It’s funny cause I’ve been thinking about adding a concert body Martin to the live and recording arsenal. But nothing I’m listing is currently selling so. 🤦🏻‍♂️

dpc, are you still enjoying your Havens guitar? And, I'm not sure if I asked you before, but did they offer the black with two pickguards? I noticed yours only has the one.

It came with another in the case (pickguard) but it doesn’t match. So I left as is. I had an LR Baggs installed so I use to play out, along with my JF-30. So. Still enjoying. Dave

I know I'm showing my ignorance here, but are there any spec differences between the Richie Havens D40 and the regular D40 (aside from the availability of dual pick guards, IIRC)?

I do love a black dreadnought.
In Corona (when introduced in '04) there was ONLY the Havens Signature: Just the Gold hardware and autograph on TRC (and extra p/g). Only ever offered in Black and Natural, and Black only on RH Signature model, now that I think about it.

In Tacoma it got adi bracing and retained the sitka top when the D40 Bluegrass Jubilee was introduced with the Adi top.
