It sounds a little shaky, but at the same time, if insisting PayPal "no fee to me" means friends and family, as a buyer that sound shaky as well. So I can see both sides being wary from the start. The rest of the story sounds just as weird. I think that I would pass on either side of this transaction.

I understand about the Friends & Family thing but it seems everyone that I buy stuff from asks for F&F. (I've been buying lots of audio equipment recently). This is partially because of recent tax policies and partially just good old fashioned cheapskateism.
Plus, I had knocked $350 off the price and was willing to ship for free (VA to NY). Taking regular Paypal would hit me for another $100+.
At some point I feel like I might as well hand deliver the guitar, teach the guy to play it, cook his dinner and wash his car.

It seems the buyer is non-USA so this may not be a scam, just a difficult situation.

I get it, your trying to maximize your profit. I don't blame you there.

No, I'm not a guitar dealer. I'm trying to break even. Zero profit. Zero loss (hopefully).

Once a guy told me he wanted to pay me paypal but that when he tried, my account would not accept the amount because it was telling him it didn;t have permission to accept over a certain amount. He said he would need to open a business account for me, with my paypal ID, and would put in 600$ more than the item, and asked if I could be trusted to send him back the overage once the payment went through.

I had that exact same thing happen and it was a scam, complete with phony email to me from 'Paypal', only it wasn't.

I have spoken with Dave_in_Va and he is going to keep me posted as to whether or not something is actually fishy here. At the moment I do not see any reason to be concerned. But, ever vigilant.
