Sorry - yes. Git is a repository used for version control (among other things). If you've ever heard of github, that's a publicly available git repository.

git commit is the command used to submit your latest changes locally.
git push is the command used to put your changes on the main server(s) usually in a secure remote location like a data center.

Basically the joke is "save your work, then save yourselves."
