OK, well if you're really serious tell him you have a friend from Grand Rapids who'd like to take a look at it, Greenville's only about 25 miles from my house.

I promise I won't buy it for myself

I'm waiting to hear back from the seller again. I asked him for some preferably high resolution close ups of the saddle and the action at the 12th fret. I want to make sure that the guitar won't need a neck reset. At this point in my limited finances that would be a deal killer unfortunately. I also told him that I've got a bud in Grand Rapids that would come look at it if he's amenable to that. The seller does have a seven day return policy, so I could always send it back I suppose, but I'd rather avoid that scenario entirely.

Thanks for the offer Dread. I'll paypal you some gas money.

That was the idea. Oh, well. :D

If I can get the seller to send me some good pictures that should suffice. We'll see.

Unless you have reason to believe that the guitar was unstrung for most of the supposed 30 years of storage in a closet, then there is a very strong possibility that it needs a neck reset. 45 years is a long time for an acoustic guitar to go without needing a reset, unless it has been unstrung for a significant part of that time.

Which is why I'll probably pass on this one. I heard back from the seller again: "played very little for 30 years...excellent shape/all original....no more pic's (sic)...I took them in my studio" I wouldn't necessarily say he's trying to hide something, but if you can't provide a couple of pictures to a seriously interested party, then you can't be that serious about selling it.

Oh well...

It's gone now so it looks like you've been stopped (or you decided to take a chance). Not to worry, another Guild will come along and grab your attention. Joan

Yes, that ship has sailed. I didn't feel comfortable bidding on it so I didn't. I have, however found something else that piques my interest http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/msg/1621204703.html I'm waiting to hear back from the seller as to the model and serial number. I'm not quite sure which of the 12 strings were all mahogany like this one. A D-25-12 perhaps?

Sorry, bud, but I ain't driving to NY to look at this one.

Doesn't matter. The guy just sold it out from underneath me.

Did you happen to see the nice little A-25 I posted in the ebay section? http://annarbor.craigslist.org/msg/1609316842.html

Not really what I'm looking for right now. Looking for a nice hog; either M-20 style or a 12 string. Thanks anyway, though.
