Ok., in 1978 I was a senior in high school and bagging groceries for my spending money. I wanted an acoustic guitar and my cousin Tony offered to help me pick one out. Tony played in a band called the Trashmen and he took me to a shop he had a good relationship with. We played through most everything there and settled on a new D25M. It played and sounded great and I thought the brown color was unique and cool. Tony mentioned that if I ever wanted to sell the guitar he’d be interested and to let him know. I’ve still got the guitar.

I had some commercial fiishing cash burning a hole in my pocket and bought a S-300 D electric in 1978 after playing every solid body electric guitar I could lay my hands on. I sold it many years ago and wish I still had it!

Ha! Everybody knows that the bird is the word -- for sure!

That 60s piece/group is even crazier than the one I toured briefly with -- The Monster Mash/Bobby 'Boris' Pickett. Some crazy stuff came out in the 60s! It was like the Cambrian Explosion of pop music!

I liked when the Ramones did it!

Thanks for that Coug! Sometimes back in the day while out for a drive, we’d occasionally lapse into a few rounds of The Bird, which typically led to uncontrollable laughter - pure fun!

So back in '68 when I was a freshman at UCLA one noon I was walking down Bruin Walk which was a long incline. There were always various political group members along the along the way that would accost and try to engage students who were trying to get to another class or more importantly grab some lunch. At the time there were also several evangelical groups that seemed to be everywhere--this one day this guy ran up to me and asked:
"HAVE YOU HEARD THE WORD?". Without missing a beat, I replied "Of course--THE BIRD IS THE WORD!" and proceeded to sing the entire
song as he followed me screaming "BLASPHEMY!" and trying to stop me from continuing on my way. Don't mess with someone who went to Redondo Union High School, fool!

I was approached by a Moonie in S California, sometime back and I decided to have some fun with him. By the time I was done with my spiel, he was running way from ME.

It must have been from the Podium. I do not remember the separate names of the stores and probably only went there a handful of times. I do remember the Headshop that was tucked in there as well. I no longer have the hand written receipt from the purchase but I'm sure that you are correct. I moved to Northern California in 1983 and I have since learned that time and distance make a darn good eraser. From the first day on, the guitar was simply known as Mr. Guild, and we spent a lot of time together. My older brother was quite a musician. Played with The C. A. Quintet and later on joined up with Jon Garon and Comfort Station. He would go to my Apt. when I was working and play Mr. Guild. Sometimes I had to just pry it away to get my turn in. Good times.

Very cool. Monster Mash was a hit in '61 and made the charts again in'73; that would be when I was dancing to it.

I've told my Madeira story ad naseum here. (The GAD/Westerly Series of the 1970's to you neubies).

Come to think of it I can't remember the first Guild I bought, perhaps a D50, but the first one I bought and kept was my JF30-12.

It was 1994 and a friend of mine was a luthier for Guild when they were still in Westerly. We got a gig at the annual Guild Christmas party. At the time, I was playing an Epiphone EBO bass.

When I opened my case, a Guild Product Manager saw my Epi and she asked if I'd like to try out a Pilot bass. I agreed and off she went to the factory to grab one for me to play. Played it all night and fell in love with it.

At the end of the night, she approached me and informed me that, since the bass has been played, they couldn't sell it as new and asked if I'd be interested in purchasing it as a factory demo at a GREATLY reduced price.

I jumped on it and, since then, it's been my workhorse ever since.

I'd wanted to try Guild, after seeing Jerry Garcia play one long ago First Guild I got to spend time with was friends S60, which really impressed. First one I owned was a very beautiful sf VI, 1975.
