It was 1994 and a friend of mine was a luthier for Guild when they were still in Westerly. We got a gig at the annual Guild Christmas party. At the time, I was playing an Epiphone EBO bass.

When I opened my case, a Guild Product Manager saw my Epi and she asked if I'd like to try out a Pilot bass. I agreed and off she went to the factory to grab one for me to play. Played it all night and fell in love with it.

At the end of the night, she approached me and informed me that, since the bass has been played, they couldn't sell it as new and asked if I'd be interested in purchasing it as a factory demo at a GREATLY price.

I jumped on it and, since then, it's been my workhorse ever since.
Lapetrarca53,
At a GREATLY price, I just don't see how you could turn it down.

I bought my first Guild, a 1966 CE-100D when I was in high school. 1998 or 1999? It was so cool. Should have kept that one. But I traded it in for something else, I think it was my first good bass (a G&L LB-100). When I still had the CE-100, I played a 68 X-500 at the same store. Played it every day I went to Blue note until it vanished. Then, I found the same guitar again a few years later in Brattleboro, VT, bought it with all the money I had in the world at that time and will probably never sell it!

Hi, my name is Mikey and I’m a recent Guild-a-holic.

A few years ago I wanted to test the waters of 12 strings. Guild is the sound I grew up with, having had friends who owned them so I knew what I wanted. I still wasn’t convinced I would play a 12er very much so chose a new 2512e jumbo that I got for $300 delivered. It was a decent 12, played easy and had a nice sound. My gateway drug.

However, very soon I discovered that jumbo 12’s and arthritic shoulders are not a very good match at all. I wasn’t as young as I once was where size didn’t matter. So in my search for a smaller Guild 12 I landed here on LTG. After a lot of good advice from some wise and very patient members I narrowed it down to an F112. In that I found my first GREAT 12 string, and I was hooked.

Then I was lead down the 6 string path to the F30 Std which bested my Martin OM for my style of play. Not being much of a finger picker (working on it) I eventually decided with a heavy heart to sell the F112 for an F312 I was lucky enough to find. That one had more of the bottom end I was looking for in a 12, but was still comfortable enough to play. It’s a keeper.

I blame the the enablers here, you know who you are, for encouraging and hooking me on these wonderful guitars. The rest as they say is history.

Back when I bought Louise, Guilds were priced significantly lower than Martins and Gibsons. Not so any more.

Well, it's happened again. Richard Peterson and I have agreed on an even swap. His Finesse will be coming back to Uncle Rich. Rich Peterson in this case is the Papa. This is the third time I have taken ownership of this particular Finesse. I think we may have rights to claim a Guinness Book of Records entry. I mean, how many guys/gals can say that they traded or sold their guitar three times to the same person?

So far I guess Brad is the only one close.....
Spring of 1965, downtown Lost Angeles, pawnshop row, '58 CE-100 hanging on the wall, went home with me in its original hard case. Been here ever since.

It was a 1973 D40, the ugliest burst you ever saw, kind of reddish purple on the edges. It was tough on the finger pads too.
Double pickguard. Still, it was a good starter. Lent it to a friend at the time who didn't have an acoustic. Ended up just gifting it to him. He still has it, it is his only acoustic.
