Phil Keaggy on acoustic or electric could make many players think they should be flipping burgers. Steffan

Any list that ain't mine is just a list...

My best-of-the-best would definitely include Tommy Emmanuel, SRV, Leo Kotke, Chet Atkins and maybe, as controversial as it may be, this guy (who may not be the greatest acoustic musician, but gave me an appreciation of acoustic music in my late teens): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z9nl3T31wI

I think it's pretty clear that the list was complied for & by folks who usually only encounter an acoustic guitar solo if it's being played by someone who normally plays electric guitar. And of course we all realize that these lists are put together and published with the idea of creating a stir.

I like Tommy a lot and he can be as flashy as any guitarist I've ever seen/heard, but I prefer his gentler side, playing a nice Beatles medley or Amazing Grace.
You don't need to be flashy to catch my ear.

Just sayin',

Possibly something like this? :) You know, everything looks difficult to me guitarwise, but to read guitar and music teachers talk about how incredibly hard it is to mimick Tommy Emmanuel makes me feel a little better.

So long as we're derailing this thread and talking about Tommy...

Papa George - his tribute to Harrison. Would love to be able to play it, but there's no way I'm beating up my Guild guitar to do it.

"Derailing"? I wasn't aware that we could only briefly mention an artist. I don't know what happened here, heck, I must have missed the page in the LTG rule book that explained "derailing" and gone over the allowable limits of discussion on Tommy Emmanuel.......I don't know what came over me  . Gosh, I've apparently been under the false impression that we were free to discuss these guys, but hey, for you, I'll limit my discussion from here on out. Do send me that "derail" definition though.

Oh boy........this place gets better all the time.

If I may add, the "derailing" was inevitable considering that by the opinion of many (including my own) Tommy is the best acoustic guitarist the world currently has to offer, in the "non classical" genre.

Ah, West, you're killin' me. :) Love this place so much, and even more since I seem to have ensconced myself among you guys. I have to agree, Pascal. Don Ross is excellent, but Tommy's got the edge. :)

I too am a big Stills fan. I could easily pick five from his work to top my own "Top 5" chart.

Thanks for sharing, West.

I've known about Juber for some time, but never actually seen him play. He seems so absorbed, and 'Little Wing' is one of my alltime favourite pieces. I love playing the rhythm guitar to it whilst my teacher plays lead.

Might have to try and find a TAB for this.

I saw Juber at a Martin workshop in the basement of my local guitar store - scary good! My buddy I was with said "I don't know whether to go home and practice all night, or just stop playing!"

And that photo of CSN's first album - don't forget Stills played pretty much every instrument on that album except the drums! "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" has to be some of the most creative acoustic guitar playing ever.

One thing I've always noticed about Tommy E. is his clear love of playing. You can tell he is really enjoying himself in every clip I've ever seen of him.
