I've never understood the beauty contests with guitars. I could understand if the guitar was simply to hang on the wall above the fireplace, but in reality, why do looks even matter. I keep hearing the evilness of playing a guitar with a pointy headstock. Maybe Im not playing in the correct fashion, because whenever I play, the shape of the headstock never seems to affect my playing. Am I doing something wrong?..............

Would you claim that ALL guitars are aesthetically pleasing ?
It's not a playing issue, it's a visual issue, and no playing issue has ever been suggested.
Pointy guitars of course, have great aesthetic value to some, and viva to those folks.
But pointy guitars suggest a genre of music that ain't exactly harmonious to a lot of discerning people here.

That "Ugliest Guitar" is ugly (to me) because Guild took a perfectly lovely design, and made what looks like (to me) a parts-bin special. It just doesn't look like an integrated design- so much of it "jars" my visual senses.

On the subject of pointy guitars, the Gibson Flying V (to me) is a lovely piece of design, the Explorer (to me) is not.

And I would suggest that a great deal of pleasure in owning guitars IS derived from hanging them on the wall/standing them on your music-room floor, and quietly contemplating their aesthetic beauty.

Try it, you may like it.
And, a handy tip; works best with liquid refreshment in hand !

I have finally decided what I think are the ugliest Guild guitars made.

Then before I got the post submitted I had a change of heart, I now think they have very elegant lines. In fact. I now think the designs were actually Stollen from George Jetson!

The X79 is a weird one for sure, and doesnt feel right when you play it. The X80 is really well balanced and plays well. Im not sure why they designed the X79 like that, but at least they fixed it when they made the X80...........

After looking at those two guitars for a little bit, I think that they use exactly the same body, just rotated 180 degrees. 8)

X 79 candidates for winners in this thread keep showing up. Here's a rather interesting paint job, I'm not sure which side is supposed to be up.

Be careful & don't look directly for more than a few seconds, it'll give you vertigo.

I think that the paint job actually compliments the guitar.

Exactly.

There was a saying in the Custom Hot Rod days of my youth
"If'n It Don't Go, Chrome It" I seem to remember it from the Temple McFlathead comic strip in Hot Rod Magazine about 63 or 64 ish.

Things like Chrome distributor covers on 96 hp Ford 6 cylinders, putting Cadillac Taillights on 52 Chevys, fender skirts on pickup trucks, stuff like that.

Hope this clears things up.
