Well guys here she is, just arrived. Got this on eBay a few days ago and I really can't believe what a beautiful guitar this is. It was a little hard to take pictures of because it's so dark and reflective it's like taking pictures of a mirror.

There is no label inside but the serial# is DD100326. That would make it a 1980 Westerly D50. Not sure what the suffix would be? SB or AB maybe? Maybe someone else could help me out with that little piece of info.

It's one of the few Guilds I've seen from this era that has almost no finish checking. The person who sold it to me had not owned it very long and didn't know it's history, but it's obvious that this guitar has not been out of the case very much. There is some light scratching on the pickguard and a few minor blemishes, but that's it really.

To my ear it sounds like a guitar that hasn't been played very much. At least not in recent years. I think it's going to take some time and a lot of playing to hear it's real voice. In other words, the bonding period has begun.

The last pic is with my Tacoma PM28 parlor.

Phil

'grats, Phil. She's a beauty.

What did you mean about the suffix? Is there something on the label that you can't read? Got a picture of that?

That one's a beauty Phil, and also the darkest Tobacco Burst I've seen on a Guild. Much darker than my D25-12 which is also considered a Tobacco Burst

Chaz, There is no label. By suffix I meant the last part of the model name. After looking at other people's signatures, I'm guessing that it would be TB for Tobacco Burst. Making the model a D50TB.

Absolutely beautiful guitar. I am happy you got this one! The woodgrain on that one is stunning. Enjoy her!

Hello Phil,

During that particular period the complete model designation would have been D-50 SB.

Sincerely,

I agree with you gmc, and I was actually thinking it might have been considered a mishap back then by the finishing people...... Lucky mishap if you ask me!

Hello deadhead & bluesy,

Sunbursts could vary from one finisher to the next, but that's what a regular sunburst ( they didn't use the 'tobacco sunburst' designation) could look like during that particular period. It is on the dark side of the spectrum though.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
