Okay, I think y'all will hate this... but hear me out.... the master and the student.... sampling gone crazy!!

Or the Janet.... Love them BOTH!!

It's good music... to me, anyway....

Tom, I have to admit that I didn't know Janet's version was totally based/sampled on the Luther Vandross song from 1980! Complete ignorance.

This reminds me of the discussion we had last week about "Angel of the Morning"

Opinion: They're both awesome. Janet's Rhythm Nation album (I think this is from that) was great. Luther.. maximum soul... A bit too disco for my taste, but rocks anyway!

Theme From An Imaginary Western, Jack Bruce version from Songs From A Tailor (this one is not that)

Until I got the JB version, way way back when, I would have been all in for Mountain, probably the best "legato" guitar break...of all time? Rumour at that remote time was that Jack Bruce actually sang this tune on the Mountain LP...guess he actually wrote it!

I was into Colosseum from Day 1, bought their first album right off the turntable at our local music store! (1969?). Never knew they did this,
but it just sounds kind of busy to me, back off on the drums (Jon Hiseman, RIP :() Good filler during a concert, but not in the running for me. That was about the only exposure we had to the band, not on the radio, not even on WBCN-Boston-104.1...

Gotta go with Shawn's version. The other doesn't feel organic and is too contrived for me.
