Well, the ad is partially right in that a guitar made in 2000 was likely built in Corona, California.

My '62 Manhattan was built in Hoboken under the direction of Carlo Greco - brother of Juliette Greco, the French actress-singer. When a volcanic eruption took out the Hoboken plant, and Guild moved to Waverly, Greco moved to Japan, where he started the Greco guitar brand with a loan from his famous french sister.
