One of my favorite bands is the Old97's. Serious alt-country and cowpunk. Every now and then, Rhett Miller & Murry Hammond go duet under the moniker of the Ranchero Brothers. Here's Murry with his beautiful black Guild bass and Rhett tearing it up. I'm not a bass-man but I believe this is a Starfire II.

Hard to say for sure but this looks like a Mark I that Karen is playing ... while she sings like a bird.

I couldn't find a way to post just the picture... but this article was in today's Salt Lake Tribune (scroll down for the Guild content)...

That's Joe Hill's (of "I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night...") great grand niece, Lovisa Samuelsson, with the Guild F-50 once owned by the late Bruce (Utah) Phillips (recognizable by the silver dollar inlaid into the headstock). Hill was executed at the Utah State Prison, which was located (at the time) in an area now occupied by Sugarhouse Park, just 5 blocks from our home in SLC. In September, there was a day-long centennial "festival" that included a free evening concert by Judy Collins, which we walked down to see... Ms. Samuelsson played Utah Phillips Guild and sang a song about her great grand uncle.

I thought that Guild looked familiar.
Since I didn't know who the lady is that 5thumbs posted (as I didn't make the connection to the post from GardMan immediately) I think it is fine to re-post that picture of the late Utah Phillips with that Guild F-50 here.

OH! What an iconic guitar! Always wondered where it went. Saw U.Utah Phillips several times over the years, what a great performer.

"...good though!"

Is the through-bridge saddle how they built them or is that a modification?

We saw Utah Phillips and his iconic Guild F-50 at a folk concert at Highland High School in SLC in 2007, a year before he passed away. Phillips headlined the concert with Rosalie Sorrels. From what I understand (it was long before we moved to SLC), both had been instrumental in starting the Highland folk club and the SLC folk scene in the 60s. It was a fun evening...

Not my favorite picture or even a favorite artist, but a couple of days ago I was watching an old episode of What Not to Wear with my wife. The subject was a musician by the name of Megan Slankard and she was shown playing a 1999 D-55. See her website for a bunch of photos with the guitar.
