I broke out the F512 this afternoon... (well, it's getting dark at about 3:45 pm, so I don't know if that's afternoon or night, lol.) I had it tuned to drop D and I was thinking the bass wasn't as big as I remembered. So I broke out the F212XL Std and tuned it to drop D, which is actually drop C since it's tuned a step down... Man that is a massive sounding 12-string, but tuned down it also sounded just a little "loose." So, what the heck, I broke out the JF30-12. Super crisp and balanced and, well, not like the others! So now I don't know what to think... I'm bewildered. A very pleasant bewilderment!

I played the Oxnard F-40T today. In the past I've said the treble is thin, but today it sounds like an amazing jumbo, with a huge sound, and very balanced volume across strings. I was wrong about this one! Glad I kept it. They really built this model light, 4lbs6oz.

Orphelia is a beauty!
GG, this is the only guitar that I've traded around LTG only to see it boomerang and come back to me after all. I'm so delighted to have it back, although I hope to share it again with my LTG friends. It's a little hard to believe that it's over 9 years since I bought Orphelia after our last, fateful visit to New Hartford. I don't know if there will ever be another opportunity to do that sharing, but either way this guitar remains a fond memory of New Hartford's incredible creativity.

I spent today playing my ‘79 F212XL and ‘72 F212XL resto-mod With a Fishman Matrix pickup. I really like the refinished look of the ‘72, without the dark stain. The grain in the mahogany is wonderful. It’s got custom fabricated Grover butter bean tuners, resurfaced fretboard, new frets, neck reset, and a hand carved bridge. Also the self lubricating TusqXL nut and saddle I really like, lots of sustain. Stays in tune forever.

The refin'd one looks quite a bit like the coloring of my New Hartford version, Bob. I, too, am a fan of mahogany's actual look. Anyway, great pair!

Hate to hear that. Time to pull out the bottleneck.
Heh heh. Actually, about fifteen years ago I bought my first squareneck, getting ready for exactly this kind of problem.

Good move or what?

My finger is fine now. Even got through a three-hour pub gig last week. My at-home playing has mostly been on a '92 D-50 I just bought. That'll probably be my today guitar. Been gig-readying Nancy Griffith's "Listen to the Radio," Ray Charles's "Hit the Road Jack," the Dead's "Deal," and an old original, "Blues for Dinah."

Unfortunately, winter is really starting to hit here in central MA, and my house's humidity is dropping below 40%... So, the guits won't be sitting out in stands anymore... But the rotation continues, and I'll be putting Orphelia away when I get home and bringing out something else for a day of play. I know, the suspense is killing you. :D :D Picture(s) to come later.
