Well, Dino is a collector and purchased lots of Guilds back in the day. Many are untouched. Remember that Hans used some of Dino's instrument for his book(s).Can something really be called NOS when it's over 25 years old? True, though, that guitar looks untouched!
No, you are right, those are US $. But remember that importing anything into Europe adds roughly 25% in various taxes and shipping. And it is a NOS untouched guitar. Plus nobody complains that Gibson asks the same amount for their new guitars in 2014... See: http://www.zzounds.com/item--GIBLPSU14Assuming those are US dollar amounts, Dino wants $5,700 for that Nightingale! Please correct me if his prices are in some other currency...
Dino is a serious collector. He has no need to sell anything. But if Keith Richards (as example) needs a new guitar for a European tour he doesn't mind spending that amount of money. And I remember that LTG members (in the US) bought from Dino in the past and were very happy with him and the guitars.
At least the 1/15/88 pricelist said "Two EMG humbucking pickups". Now I guess that question can only be answered by Hans or any Westerly member. According to Dino they are EMG pickups. But somebody (LA?) mentioned before that some came with passive Kent Armstrongs that looked the same like EMGs.I don't believe those pickups are active EMG's with Guild on the cover. I believe they are passive pickups and not made by EMG. I have a set of single coils with black plastic covers with Guild printed on them and they are a set of stacked humbuckers made by DiMarzio. I might be willing to bet they are a DiMarizo HB's.
It's a normal serial number 81, why should it be a X or prototype? If this Nightingale is actually a latter-day "X" model from Westerly, could that mean it's a prototype? That could explain the lettering and the theory by matsickma (if it's correct).
Anyway, it seems to be one of the last ever made original 80's Nightingales, on the Nightbird pages I read only 82 were made. (But there was another 90's series called X-3000 which were also Nightingales).
Anyway, time for some Buddy Guy and his Nightingale with two active EMG 60's (according to Krysh). (lots's of Buddy after minute 4:08)
