Talking Heads (original)

Peter Gabriel (cover)

I have a cassette made during preproduction in Dan Lanois' studio for the Neville Bros album Yellow Moon where a cover of this song was once considered for inclusion on the album. It's my favorite version of the three! ! (Sorry, I can't share it, as I made a promise not to 35 years ago. I really need to digitize it before the tape falls apart! It has alternative versions of practically the whole album plus many extras...all in great studio quality!!)

Btw, all three versions are closely connected via Brian Eno/Dan Lanois. Eno has worked w/ all 3 groups, and Lanois 2 of the 3.

I thought Isaac Hayes was gonna take the prize when I listened, but when I listened to Cat again (I always listen to all of them, even if I'm familiar) Cat just kinda drove the song with an energy that wasn't in IH's version.

Surprisingly, I chose Mary Beth for Daydream Believer. I don't think I've ever heard her before. She has a lovely voice and really got rid of the POP vibe and did a super cool version!!

Now with Jumpin' Jack Flash, figuring the Rolling Stones version would be pivotal, I was surprised!! I like the RS's, not LOVE, just like. Tons of respect, but when Ananda Shankar version came on it really blew me away!! What a cool version. Made me enjoy listening to that song again. So I picked Ananda Shankar!!

It's a game Don and I play... one song... two artists. Who did it better??

Song is "Outbound Plane"

And then by the original writer...

JUST SO YOU KNOW THE RULES.... the SAME SONG by DIFFERENT PEOPLE... OKAY??

Lemme have it and who did it best?? I know my fave... but what's yours??

Thanks a lot Tom: Like I don't spend enough time on this forum as it is -- now you've come up with something both fun and interesting. ;)
