Hey Maxer, you definately need to plug one of these in before buying. I won't say anything else, just be sure to hear one before you pull the trigger.

Anything would be better than what's in them now.Wonder what they would sound like with the new HB-1s?
Definately go by your own judgement, but play one first if you can. I went to my local Guild dealer and played one several times plugged in to just about every amp in the store and just couldn't bring myself to buy it. The salesman offered me several discounts but I still just couldn't justify it. I entertained the idea of swapping out the pickups but didn't like the idea of buying something brand new and having to sink more cash into it, especially with what I've seen the few used NS S100's on Ebay have gone for. The two I can think of off the top of my head went for less than $500 and maybe $600. I've played the NS Starfires and liked them but not the S100. Hell, even the official Guild S100 demo video on youtube sounds terrible to me. I love Guilds as much as anyone but I think they dropped the ball on the S100's.They're that bad? I have read different accounts which describe them more charitably. Guess I have to use my own judgement.
That's a bold statement, I have not seen any such bad review of the new mini humuckers yet...Yes, the Guild official distorted video is not nice at all, I agree to this. But in all other models the new Guild mini humbuckers sounded great and very similar to the vintage version and people liked them a lot. You can't compare a Guild mini humbucker with a Guild HB-1.Anything would be better than what's in them now.
Ralf, I agree with your last sentence 100%. I'm not trying to bash Guild here, I love them as much as anyone here, but I wish they would have re-introduced the S100 with HB-1's or other full size humbuckers. The one in my local dealer hung there almost a year before someone bought it.It was also on E-bay the whole time. It had been demo'd a LOT. The condition it was in before it sold told me a lot of people tried it but didn't buy it. I think the reason for that was because it just didn't sound good. I think that if Guild wanted to re-introduce the Polara S-100 with mini-hums then they should have made it with the original "gumby" body shape. Then, when they had the new HB-1's ready they could have re-introduced the "SG" style S-100. BTW,maybe I'm wrong or wasn't paying attention but I don't recall a NS S-100 NGD where anyone was excited about the tone of their new guitar. Plenty of praise for fit and finish, weight and "feel" but not tone. I'm not trying to be "bold" or argumentative here, just stating my opinion. I really wanted to love these guitars, I just don't.That's a bold statement, I have not seen any such bad review of the new mini humuckers yet...Yes, the Guild official distorted video is not nice at all, I agree to this. Maury: And here I also agree 100%! And I am sorry if "bold" was not the right word in my response, as you noticed I am not living in the US. You are right, we didn't have a proper tone review of a NS S-100 yet I think.I wish they would have re-introduced the S100 with HB-1's or other full size humbuckers....Then, when they had the new HB-1's ready they could have re-introduced the "SG" style S-100.
Shops in UK quoting delivery between April 10 and April 25 depending on model. So about 1 1/2 month to go...Thomann in Germany quotes "delivery within 2-5 days", if that is true, I don't know.Anyone actually seen any of these out in the wild yet?

That would be hard to resist. Add cream Franz pickups, or white topped DeArmonds...drool.I keep looking at the Capri, but I might hold off on it for a while - just to see if they put out any colour options. If they put out one in black, like the limited Aristocrat run that appeared pretty early on, I'd be into that ...

No news, the goldtop is available since a month already: http://www.letstalkguild.com/ltg/showthread.php?180309-2014-Guild-M-75-GoldtopJust saw the first one on eBay - the gold Aristocrat. The seller's in Houston, TX. Hopefully the rest will follow along sooner than I thought.
