I think the big difference is that in 2013 the Newark St. series was announced at NAMM in January but they had not even started production yet. Now production is running since almost a year and it might be much easier to introduce new models now. And since we saw prototypes of the new 2014 models already last year (like in that Fender video above) the likelihood is high that it does not need another 6 month in 2014 until shops get them. So I guess there is hope!

That makes sense. Be good to see them out sooner rather than later.

I don't know about elsewhere, but here in the UK FMIC have been very selective about who's selling them - only a handful of places - 3 I reckon.

I work at a guitar store here in town one day a week - and the Fender rep showed me the backlog they still have trying to get the first series Newark series to all the dealers - I'd say don't get your hopes up.

How does that make sense with other dealers seeming to be dumping their Newark series stock at below MAP?

The good news that I take from this is that the electric line was not a "one-year-and-done" experiment. I love that the line is still alive and I hope that it remains alive for a long, long time.

There I go again, being US-centric in my thinking. Glad to hear the line is doing well over where you are!!

From looking at eBay and US dealers' sites it looks like a few dealers in the States are having a hard time selling new guitars - especially Far East imports (and not just Guilds). I'm seeing a lot of Japanese Gretschs (minus the warranty) going for far below usual street price.

I agree Gonzo. Far too many people in the states these days are unemployed or underemployed, and people just aren't spending money like they once did.

Just saw a UK dealer site saying that they expect delivery of the Capri on the 27th of January. Hopefully this is accurate. Might not have wait as long as last year.

Here in Toronto I've yet to see even a single item from the original Newark line. Been wanting to take a look at the new S100s but no such luck. I think there's a glut of new guitars in North America and they're having a hard time moving them due to less than ideal economic conditions. Maybe because the Guild electric line is still new, relatively speaking, and dealers are taking their sweet time recognizing that the line even exists. Plus there's a pronounced and understandable bias towards Fender and Gibson and a handful of other established players - after all, they're the bread and butter of guitar sales for most dealers.

Looks like whoever is in charge of figuring out distribution has a thing or two to learn from this!

Hey, it's just a guess on my part, based on observations in my own town. Pretty anecdotal. I'm also basing it on how well the used market is doing as seen on Craigslist and Kijiji. Lots and lots of almost brand-new guitars lingering there because people need to raise money - lost job, need to pay the rent, going back to school, etc.

I was at LA Music some months ago. Not a single Newark specimen. Nor did the guy on the sales floor seem to have any clue that any would be making their way to this huge store.

As for Tundra, I'll check 'em out. I've tried all the obvious big shops, to no avail.

Well, that might have changed in the meantime, at least they list every possible Guild model on their webpage. Now if that means you can order them online only or if they have them physically in their shop, I obviously don't know. Maybe worth to give them a call again.

My thinking exactly - they'll order it for you but try finding one on the shop floor.

However, I live very close to Tundra... last and only time I was in there something about the place bugged me but it's certainly worth seeing if they actually have an S100 in the flesh there.

I get the feeling that there just aren't that many out there - be interested to know just how many they've made.

I'm in London and I've only ever seen two Newark Street models (a Starfire III and a really overpriced Aristocrat) on Denmark Street, where there are 7 or 8 music stores right next to one another. At least here, there just aren't that many to be seen.

I just had an email exchange with the fellow at Tundra. Says he's been trying for six months to get an S100 into his shop. He has two on order and one is already spoken for. He's not certain when he can expect them in. He sounded a bit frustrated, to tell you the truth. How well are these things being distributed States-side? I'm kind of surprised. Is there pent-up demand or did they under-estimate the resultant interest in the new line?

I told the store contact that I'd just like to check one out, I don't necessarily want to buy it straight off - I want to compare it to my '71, see if I can find any love for the newer generation. I'm not troubled by it being Korean made, as I've owned several fine guitars that were made there. No, it's more about the fit and finish, the balance, and how the pickups compare to those in the original line.

My first hand info is out of date, but when the Newark Street line was first announced Guild spokespeople said they would be hard to get because they were only going to selected dealers, and they were going in out in the order that Guild received the money, and that production was going to be deliberately low until all the quality control issues were worked out. So if Tundra was one of the first dealers to place a firm order, I'd be concerned and annoyed, but if they were farther back in the queue then maybe patience is called for.

As for the S100, Action Music had one on the rack several weeks ago. They might still have it and be willing to ship out of country. Of course you have to buy before you try and return if it doesn't work for you. That said, it was cited by folks at the store as the 2013 Newark Street model that impressed them the least. They cited the poly finish as being thick. I don't play guitar, didn't plug it in, but it didn't feel like my JS II bass is some vague sense so their assessment seemed reasonable at first impression to me.

All that said, I think a couple folks have played NS and vintage so maybe a focused question or two, in a new thread might draw out some hands on experience that might make you willing to speak for the second one at Tundra.

Thanks for the feedback, fronobulax. Well, I'm happy to check out the second one once it comes in. A thick poly finish is a real turn off for me though. I try to avoid it and it's one of the reasons I never seem to keep an Agile LP, as well made as they are. I prefer thinner finishes for sure. But who knows? I may fall in love with the thing. As I said, I'm very curious. Compared to most of you, I have but one Guild guitar, and I wouldn't mind adding another.
