My first post here. Ive been attracted to guilds for a long while and finally got some funds together to start my search. I found a mint A-25 down in Sarasota last weekend and I love this guitar. Ive been playing a Taylor 314, an old Sigma D-28, and an Ami Parlor. The Ami was my leave out and play on the couch guitar but it just didnt have the nice full sound I wanted (its a parlor but still just lacked something I was looking for)

Short story is that after playing this guitar Im hooked. I find the build excellent and the sound very complex and pleasant. Ive gotten two opinions on the guitar, one from a luthier and one from my teacher and both where also very impressed with her. For the money I havent seen or played a better guitar for what I wanted.

They may be inconsistent, but I am one happy owner.

Good luck in your search,
Dustin

Just brought home warehouse held/used A50 NT guild acoustic made in the late 90s I was told. Paid $800. No electronics. Good deal or not? Good condition I would say.

Hmm... Good deal? Well, do you like it? :) Did you have a chance to compare it to one of the new Bob Marley A-50 models that were introduced recently?

Good deal yes depending on condition. If it doesn’t need a lot of work and it’s in good cosmetic condition you did well. These have a very wide nut width so if you don’t like it I’ll take it off your hands.

Thanks. I used it last night in a jam and it sounded nice but hard to hear with all the other dreads. Appreciate the offer. I can’t find much online. Waiting for Guild to respond to a message I sent them. I also notice the date made on inside of guitar was june 1, 1995. Could find no info on serial number lookup.

Most people's experience is that asking Guild today about anything that happened before 2009 or so almost never gets a correct or informed answer. But they are getting better so it can't hurt to ask.

The inside date is not a completion date, but rather when a subassembly was completed or attached. Since the published charts (which are sometimes right) don't show any A50 serials for 1995 it may be your instrument was completed in 1996.

Hans Moust can probably tell you. He may respond to a message at LTG but you can contact him through his website.

CVB, when you say "warehouse held" what does that mean exactly? Just want to be clear.

What Frono said - Guild has changed hands a lot and the company today is not a good resource for older models. The neck block may say 1995 but according to the online source they were finished in 1996. However, Hans is the best source.

The A50 flat top being similar to but just slightly smaller in size than the F30R does not produce a lot of volume compared to a dread. It does however have a rich, warm tone. With the wider neck it is a very nice choice for fingerstyle but I give the edge to the F30’s for strumming.

Sent a pic of the inside label to him on his personal e mail. I just can’t find much info at all on internet and at Guild, I can’t get in touch with anyone on the phone. Left a message to get in touch with me.
Thanks for all the info everyone shares.

An LTK ? Guitar case manufacturer, as I understood it, used many different kinds of guitars to build moulds for guitars. They apparently wanted to rid themselves of these guitars and since they worked with Sam Ashe on projects or products, they sent a fair number that had been housed in their warehouse to S.A. To be sold. I got this one as they were checking in all the guitars. Seemed like one of the nicer ones and a great price.

No. I thought the Bob Marley models were the current A20 mods? Have not seen mods for a current A50. I saw some older, I think they were A series, 20 and 30s. They were made in China. The A50 I got was made in the USA, had ebony bridge and fretboard and gold tuning machines. However, the laquor finish seemed thick and covered the pickguard. The axe seems in excellent shape.

Never came across an A-50, but I seem to be alone here in liking the A-25. (It moves more air than any guitar its size has a right to!)

Maybe I got a an especially good one?

While it's unrealistic to compare it to the iconic (and pricier) dreads and jumbos Guild produced, I think it's under-appreciated given what it has to offer.

A better comparison might be to some of the other Guild entry-level / inexpensive models, such as the D4 for instance. No one is going to swoon over these, sure, but they are, IMO, reliable, good sounding gutars.

The A-25 is built more lightly than the F20s and F30s I've owned, which may account for how responsive they are. (I've sold two F30s but have kept this.)

They don't seem to turn up very often, that's for sure! (How many were builit, anyone know?) In all my years of watching the New England area Craigslist sites, the A25 I have is the only one I've ever seen for sale. I went to check it out not expecing much -- especially given the dire reputation it has here -- but I liked it enough to buy it. It was inexpensive, which made it a painless buy but I wouldn't have ponied up if I didn't like what I heard.

For short dollars, they're well worth checking out, IMO.
