I'm so jazzed about this purchase. I've been waiting years for the right kind of fat-tire bike (4" wide, 26" mountain tires) to come along for me. I have a wonderful (unassisted) MTB that I've used for many years. But, for New England weather, like what we've been experiencing for the last two weeks, a regular mountain bike is nigh unusable. A fat bike on the other hand...

Anyway, this is what's on order and I can't wait for it to make it's way from San Diego to casa Chaz...

GAD was railing on yesterday ( :) ) about lithium batteries and, well, I'm sticking my tongue out at him right now. 52V and 19.2Ah will get my fat ass going and back on the bike!!! :D :D Anyway, pictures and review when I get it! Probably not until mid-Feb. :(

Those scare me. I keep reading about fires caused by recharging Li-ion batteries in eBikes.

Chazmo, I wish you success in your pursuit of what you need. They look like they're fun to ride; seen a few around where I like esp. on the Norwalk River Trail where bikes are allowed.
Personally, I would not own one unless the battery was easily removable so I could store it in a weatherproof box out on my stone patio. I have a friend that had an Ebike for 1 month and one day he was riding it and the battery started to smoke. He's gone to riding a similar fat tired bike with peddles.

Mine has pedals, Walt, but the electric assist is designed to vary with effort and speed.

A fat bike without assist is just too much effort to pedal to be useful. IMO, of course.

The battery on mine is easily removable and well protected from the elements on the bike. Plus, Juiced (the company that makes it) seems to be very well tied in with battery safety.

We'll see, right. Sorry for your friend's experience.

Those are cool, Chaz! I think you'll have a lot of fun with those. I've come across folks here in Oregon way up in the mountains electric fat tires. They're being put to good use pretty successfully here in the Cascades.

Have fun!

Nice! Congrats, looks so awesome. I’ve been thinking of a mountain e-bike myself, no rush at the moment cause I’d have to do research etc, so I’ll be curious how you fare. Will be interested to hear a review after you’ve had it through summer 👍

Darn tootin', jp. I used to bike heavily in Marin County, CA, back in the day. I don't expect to get back into that kind of riding shape, but if this works out it'll snap me out of a mostly sedentary lifestyle. At 61, I can't let myself fall apart yet. :D

Well, the upgraded controller and accompanying taillight arrived ahead of the bike (due here on Tuesday)... At least part of it is here...

Totally champing at the bit.

They are effectively electric Mopeds. The problem is, at least at this time, they are not legislated in anyway and are still viewed as regular pedaled bicycles. When they zoom by you and cut you off at 40 miles an hour maybe they should be out in the car lane and no longer in the bike lane where people who are seeking physical fitness ride! Around here they are a menace!

E-fatties are the tool of choice for food delivery couriers in the city. They are literally everywhere.

My ride is a 30-year old pedal-powered Peugeot. I confess that at times, especially in cold weather, I'm jealous of the E-crowd!

Oh, I see, Kurt. Well, that won't be me, and this enables me to get fit again. Just can't ride a fat bike without electric assist, and the fat tires are what I need to get around here year-round.

Narrow tires are death in sleet/snow/sand.... That's why I can't wait for the fat bike.
