So I was watching the "Big Joe Polka Show" a month or so back and one of the bands had a guitarist with a solid body Guild electric. The instrumentation of this particular band was two accordions, and a electric guitar, electric bass and drums. I didn't watch long, as soon as the camera pans to the dancers I tend channel surf. The Big Joe (and he really is) show appears on the RFDTV network. This show is out of Nebraska and has two or more polka bands every show along with the almost always empty dance floor with none of the dancers doing the same thing. Quite funny actually, although they are serious. I should put some of this stuff on DVD.

This network also has the Porter Wagoner show with Dolly as a young girl. Really fine television. Got to love the Nudie suits. I have been recording this and have several shows with Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and many others.

Do you know what model?

No, I saw it as well & the picker & his guitar were in the background with poor light. There were two 12 strings I believe, one wasn't a Guild & I never got a look at it. Maybe the light wasn't that poor, I'm still having a bit of trouble with the new bifocals.

Can't remember for sure but I think the 12's were in on this song during their Austic City Limits performance.

We should have a point system, Guild 12's predominate & they're easy to spot. Maybe only two points for a 12, F 30's maybe 50 points.

:D I was watching BET Jazz the other day. They had their "Studio Jams" show on & the cats playing were some guys in Willies band. One of the guest players was playing a TBurst Blues Bird. It had a pick guard mounted on it. I think the guys's name was John Miles but could be wrong.

My 2 cents of seeing a Guild on the tube.

We're going to need video verification with you then Jeff. Trouble with the bi-foculs huh? It was probably a bass guitar and you want to count it as a 12 string for two points? You'll be digging out all of the Tiny Tim vids to say he's playing an F30 for the big points? :D

I was watching the Blues Brothers and noticed the character named Guitar Murphy (I could be wrong about the name) was playing a Guild in the Minnie the Moocher scene with Cab Calloway. This set piece and the wonderful James Brown number in the church (We're on a mission from God), were the best production numbers in the movie. He is playing a full-body guitar that I think is in the SA or MA series, maybe a Stratford? I don't have the book handy. Here is a link to the complete number: http://www.brainmetric.com/movies/moocher.mov

I know what you mean! The first time I ever heard her sing I was captivated. Then when I saw her singing and playing that did it for me. Totally amazing how much patience and musicality she has with a song. . .AND she plays a Stafire III!!

John Fogerty with a Guild??? I am a JCF Fan and that is news to me. I thought he was a Gibson LP/Fender Tele guy with a Strat here and there. Martins, Gibsons, and more recently, Taylors for acoustic.

I always associate Forgerty with the Rickenbacker 325. The one with the humbucker and Bigsby:

Hi Jerrymac,

Do you know the story behind the truss-rod cover on this guitar?

The way I understand it, Rickenbacker used some pictures of JCF playing this guitar in an ad campaign without asking permission, so in retaliation he made up an "ACME" truss rod cover so they couldn't do it again.

He was apparently the band's self-anointed manager without any background in legal and licensing issues, which was one of the problems in their eventual self-destruction.
