DV 52

WEST R LEE I know you were kidding :D I just felt I had to say something. Over 40 years of playing and owning all makes and models of acoustics, I still pick up a Guild and admire its strength and punch. In fact I brought it to work today for a little lunchtime pickin!

S-h-h-h-h-h-h-h!

West, Mr. P --- S-h-h-h-h-h-h-h - if all those other players start finding out about Guilds - well not only will it overload their poor little eggy brains...but then - HORRORS! - they'll start buying up old Guilds and then....Arghghghghghghghg! Not a decent Guild to be had.

Seriously, though, I used to believe in other boards - just like I used to watch Star Trek and think, "perhaps there could be life on other planets." Then, I saw that episode where Kirk and Spock beam down to the planet and sit in on a guitar session in a futuristic Nashville and all of the aliens are playing Martins and Gibsons and Taylors and I then I know and say, "Nah! There's no intelligent life out there."

Smith and Sutton,

I missed that Star Trek episode...wish I'd seen it. I guess a part of me hopes that one day the "Guildons" will live again at planet "Westerly", Spok would feel that was "logical".

I was afraid for a long time that I was the only one that felt this way about these old pieces of wood and metal................It's good to be here!

I am afraid that the "Guildons" were kidnapped from planet "Westerly" by aliens by the name of "Fendulite", and taken to the "Greed galaxy"!

It is said that the "Fendulites" were experts at building electric ships, but knew nothing of the power of acoustics....they kept falling apart. Realizing that, the Fendulites have taken the "Guildons" to planet "Tacomula". I sure hope they find a home there and thrive!

west, you digress. If there was any intelligent life at Fender, they'd still be building the DV-52! By the way, does anyone know roughly how many DV-52's were made total?

I just got mine back from Elderly Instruments, my luthier installed a Baggs under-the-saddle pickup. I plugged it into my Crate CA-125D acoustic amp and tweaked it in...wow. The best of both worlds... :D

No Dred, I'm really not sure. I do know that it was a pretty big run, I think several thousand. Hans will know exactly.

Sutton :) .....Glad you enjoyed it....I wish it were truly fiction!

Just joined up this week, and as a long time Gibson player (J45) who journeyed into the Martin world last year(D18), I am really enjoying my Fender-Guild (2002) D55! Its different, but just as good as any other high volume, mass production companys, guitars, so they may have a future....I hope so.

J45,

It's good to have you here....I wouldn't brag too much here about those other obscure guitar makers though :p ...just kidding. Welcome!

Dred, My DV-72 is the only "electrified" acoustic I own. Maybe I need a different pickup. Mine has a Martin Thinline 332 under saddle and I have a little Roland 50 amp, but the 72 sounds tons better through my Shure SM57 microphone than it does plugged in. It seems like the sound is just not accurate (distorted) through the pickup and "miked", it just sounds like an amplified version of an acoustic...with effects.
