I could never get the Kyser to work properly, Jerry. The spring tension, of course, is set at the factory. For me, it never had the right tension to hold the strings down properly. I had a 12-string and a 6-string version; the 6-string worked OK on my 6s, but the 12er just didn't cut muster. The Shubb you just kind of adjust initially and then you're done -- that thumbscrew design is very nice.

This may be the final post of this thread.

My J30-12 has been set up by a guy in the north of England who absolutlely knows his business. He has set the guitar up for playing at concert pitch with no capo, and it plays - as they say in the US - "like butter". Loud and warm and sweet and clear.

Evidence, if it were needed, that a good set-up is worth paying for. And then some.

I can't quite believe just HOW good this instrument is. Guild heaven.

Any UK subscribers to this forum - I can give more details re the tecchie.

Thanks to all "Guilders" who suggested I went down the "tecchie" road. How right you were!

IJ.

And a big "Amen," IJ. Congrats on taking the right path, and may your 12-string serve you well for many years!

Chaz - you're probably right on the 12 string needing something like a Shubb - I only use a six string so less to clamp. And I can recommend the G7ths 'Nashville' as being nicer than the Kyser :D

The JF30-12 continues to amaze with its tone & its volume. It's like an orchestra.

I had always been bit of a snob about guitars with ANY laminated wood in their construction, believing that only solid timbers would suffice (I think of this as my "Martin complex"). But the sheer power of the JF30-12 has taught me a lesson - no doubt already learned long-ago by many of you guys - that a well-constructed guitar, made with a tightly-grained spruce top and solid sides, but with an arched laminated back, can yield great results.

How we live and learn!
