I've been lurking for a while and thought I should introduce myself to the old-timers. I'm quite new to playing, however I got bit by the bug rather hard. After a bad experience with three years of piano lessons as a teenager, I lost any interest in playing music until my 30s. Now having regretted not keeping with it, I'm finding guitar better suited to me and has refueled my interest.

My first guitar was a Morgan Monroe M-KOA E1, which I bought to give me something decent to start out on that wouldn't be a detriment to my learning, but not so expensive so that if I didn't stay with it, I wouldn't be out too much. It is a nice guitar for the cost, but being a perfectionist with expensive tastes is a double edged sword and I quickly realized I was never going to be content until I had a top of the line guitar. I pursued Gibsons, Martins, Taylors, Breedloves, but settled on Guild, a brand new 2007 Tacoma built, Iced Tea finished F-47M with D-TAR electronics to be specific. It was love at first sight and first chord. I had no choice in the matter, I had to have it. There was no point to even try to resist. I have been doing mostly fingerstyle so far and this type of body seems well suited for that. Describing sound is pretty difficult, however it is sweet, warm, bold, powerful, delicate, complex, upfront all mixed together....if that is possible. This guitar has cured my GAS problem, big time! This guitar is far better than I am, but so enjoyable every time I picked it up to practice. So, let me stop talking, and get to the good part.....

iJam,

First of all, welcome! You come bearing a beautiful guitar, and with pics no less. Wow!
However, you said that this guitar "cured your GAS problem," or something to that effect. Sorry, but your GAS 'problem' has only just begun.
Can't wait to hear about your next one!

Turn off the light when you're done,
Joe

Welcome, iJam! :D

That's a beautiful first Guild.

The F47s are wonderful guitars. The two I have played belong to Graham, and are very nice for fingerstyle. He has a mahogany and a rosewood.

Yep...Guilds are like that! 8) Check out the title of my D-46 in my signature, I know exactly what you mean. Welcome to LTG, and may I say that is one beautiful F-47M. Thanks for the sweet eye candy to fuel the GAS fire. Post often, but play more.

iJam,

I had to revisit your photos and once again, I'm impressed with both the guitar and the photos themselves. Reminds me of a super-model photo spread! Of course, you ARE working with a super model there!!
So, with all those accolades out of the way, would you mind sharing with me/us what kind of camera you're using.

I'll go back now for more views and continue my drooling.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the nice comments. To answer your question Joe about the camera, it is a Nikon D40 SLR. However the secret to why the photos look the way they do has more to do with the flash, which is a Nikon Speedlight SB600. It has a pivoting head so what you do when inside is point the flash to the ceiling and not directly at the subject. This technique bounces the light naturally like a ceiling light and avoids the "deer in the headlights" and flat looking photos you get with a point-and-shoot with a little flash on the camera. You get natural shadows and the subject has a sense of dimension. If you watch professionals, they do this all the time.

When you have a high gloss surface like this Guild, it makes glare a problem. I had to try several times with each view to find the angle that minimized the glare.
