Arrived today. '78. Has it's share of dings/rash, pickup patina, a manageable amount of binding rot on the high E side and a snapped bridge low E adjustment screw. But, is in all respects awesome and stunning to boot. Original case too.

This is my 2nd S300-D. The first was also a '78, albeit refinished, but the neck profile was way deeper in cowboy chord territory (who knows) and we never fully bonded.

This neck is amazing and it is just a hero guitar. When I sold the first one I felt the super distortions were just too much. Now I realize how useful this is to have in the quiver.

All in all, an epic Guild day as I also received a '79 SF-4 purchased on this forum that has me grinning from ear to ear. These two plus the DeArmond S73-12 (also purchased on this forum) really have my needs covered. Other guitars are going up for sale. My bass collection is a different issue entirely.

Nice burst! So does the small toggle switch split both pickups or just the bridge pickup?

Ive been looking for a solid body electric and watching this black ‘98 S100 reissue. Seller says the mini toggle on this guitar is to split the bridge pickup. Was this added maybe?
The phase switch was standard on all S-300 models. It is possible that the guitar has been rewired, with the phase switch repurposed, but it could also be that the seller is just mistaken:unsure:

Seller probably looked at the wiring, didn’t understand what he was looking at and made an assumption.

The phase switch will only have an effect in the middle position and will provide a nasally sort of thinner tone when engaged. I didn’t appreciate it in my “all bridge pickup all the time” youth, but I love it today.

(new thread maybe?) Gotcha. Chicago Music Exchange had it “Electronics: Original electronics, with Seymour Duncan '59 neck pickup and JB bridge pickup, 3-way selector switch, and volume/tone controls for each pickup. There is also a mini-toggle switch to split the bridge pickup.”

Take a pic of the wiring cavity and We’ll let you know for sure, but it wouldn’t be the first time a big store was clueless about a Guild.

I have been thinking further about the question of whether it would be a coil split or phase switch . It would seem odd to me to have only one pickup on a two humbucker guitar split-able. On the other hand, the phase switch works only on the bridge pickup, putting it in or out of phase with the neck pickup. I would also say, that if the seller is wrong, then they probably never used the switch! The phase switch only has any effect when both pickups are selected.

I don't think the Super Distortion of the day even had four wires so unless it was swapped out it *can't* be a coil split.

At the time if you wanted coil-spit capability you had to opt for the Dual-Sound, which was basically a 4-wire Super Distortion.

I'm sure somebody knows this off this top of their head. What are specs of the intonation adjustment screw on the bridge of an S300? This showed up with low E screw snapped. Thanks.

Hmm... I think I'd be looking to replace that bridge, acme. The roller saddles look fine, but the other screws and springs don't look so good and I'll bet they're frozen in their screw holes anyway... You might try taking the bridge off and soaking it in solvent to try to recondition each saddle but as you said you'll still have to replace the low e-string screw (and probably spring).

Good luck!
