I'm looking closely at the PU covers in the ad and I can see a very faint EMG logo on one of the single coils so I'm going the "they're all EMG pickups" route.
Yes indeed, both neck and middle show it I'd say.

On the HB you see the G:

Okay I stopped overthinking and pulled the trigger. '86 is my HS graduation year so that's my rationalization.
This will be my first MIA Guild shredder. My MIK Blade is from the the 90's and it's what I taught myself to play lead on.
As far as the weight of it goes, I do a lot of yoga and I know a good chiropractor.
Now to get a matching leather Couch strap!
Congrats! Great price for these times. I have a black S-281 version with 2 "California" passive HBs and love it. Enjoy!!

Nice! What year is yours? The headstock is a lot different that the '86. I know the various headstock shapes have been researched extensively here.

Hello tonepoet,

Actually, that is an S-280, but I see that you had the right info in your signature!

Sincerely,

Hi Hans,

Thanks for pointing that out. I easily confuse the two models.

Good to hear from you again. If I can help with anything for your database, let me know. My purchases of Guilds has slowed down with the rise in asking prices these days.

Thanks,
Jack (tonepoet)

Hi 7GuildsandanSG,

Mine is a 1984 with the "Cake knife" headstock, as those headstocks became known as.. This was the "standard" model with one exception and that is the optional maple fingerboard.

Got the guitar yesterday. The pickguard was damaged during shipping. Pressure on the knobs from outside the case, I guess. Any suggestions on where to get a new one? I'm working things out with the seller who is very responsive.

Electronics work perfectly. The thing screams. Volume and over drive just make the tone better.
I see this as a tool well designed for one specific task: shredding your brains out at high volume with lots of distortion. Wow. Very fun!

With guitars I've always had good luck, but I had an amp show up - couple years ago - all the way from Winnipeg with faceplate smashed in, pilot light broken and the switch was donked, wouldn't move.

Unobtainium, amp from Gar Gillie's shop 1974.

I just pushed the face plate back out, glued the pieces of the jewel together, said some prayers over the switch, it started working, still works today but I try not to use it by using a Brown Box to turn the amp on/off.

In the amps case, sender didn't have much padding on the control plate side, but a ton of room/padding on the other, the faceplate/jewel light/switch were just on the other side of the cardboard, so the amp was in the box backwards, which I attributed to the legalizing of a substance in 2018.

Beck's passing made me want something with a better trem than the 1954 six screw design, as great as it is, I have two.

So this shredder guitar fell into my lap, just what I needed, because the body's routed, you can go up a surprising amount without the need to cant the trem plate up in the air, affecting action, string distance from the pickups and frets, intonation even.

Here's an example of pulling up on harmonics in a musical way.

More whammy inspiration. Jeff teaching a master class, solos start just under the 3:00 mark. Watching this you might feel that comparing old music to new is like guitars, there are some similarities but that's about it.

Man, that's a drag !!!!

I have used Pickguard Heaven before with good results

Link: https://pickguardheaven.com/

I would make a claim with the shipping company and see if you can get a new pickguard paid for by them.

Best of luck

The existing pickguard is 6mm thick which I'm finding hard to find in sheets. Anyone's thoughts would be great.
