Is it me or does it look like someone's in Angus school shorts?

What Starfire, it's only a glimpse sadly.

Trippy 12 string, EKO maybe?

Sounds like a WEM or Guild Copicat in action during the alternate verses?

that is a great electric guitar tone and sound.
the kinks were super polished so early in their career and for the 60s.
like the Who in 1965 was still a mess.
beattles still doing their pop numbers and stones blues.

but the kinks sound so well put together for 1965. crazy

I agree. And they didn't go to shit in the 80's either.

Remember Low Budget, they were still rocking were other bands had really gone in another direction.

I gained a new respect for them after a couple of trips through their The Anthology set. A great band and totally underrated.

Funny story. I saw them live in maybe 1981 or so. In '78 Van Halen had a hit with "You Really Got Me". So Ray Davies introduces "You Really Got Me" during the show, and goes on a short rant about how they did it first, their version is best, etc.

So Dave Davies kind of looks over at Ray, kicks it off with heavy distortion, and they basically do the Van Halen version!!

Single Florentine cutaway + Guildsby = Starfire III.

It's on an album cover:

How do these compare with the later guitars with different pickups and pickup placement?

Tone and playability?

The scale remained the same?

Saw The Kinks in September '79 at Esbjornson Gym, Glassboro State (now Rowan U). Loudest concert I've ever been to. In the car driving home after the concert we could see each other's lips moving but could not hear a thing.

Saw them in the late 70’s at school. I have a vivid memory of Dave straddling the top of two stage monitors and then letting all hell break loose with You really got me.

Ears were ringing for days.

Underrated? They’re one of the founding fathers of Rock ‘n Roll!

Agreed - not disputing that. If you ask a music non-geek (there are very few of those around here) to name some of their songs, you might get "Lola". And that's it.

Sunny Afternoon and You Really Got Me surely widely known? The former gets used on TV adverts here quite often.

I would bet youngsters think YRGM is a Van Halen song.

I guess I'm not showing my age. I knew VH did a cover, not an original, but quite honestly when I replay the song in my mind as we are talking about it, VH is the version that is stuck in my head.

So Frono's a VH fan! Let's talk some VAN HALEN!

Jamie's Cryin' saved me from Once in Love with (J)Amy until I realized I was still better off than Brandy.
