Had the new 2007 F412 out again today. OMG, tone just JUMPS out of it! The old one-in-one-out is the reason GG's got that superfine F212XL. ;)

Got out the '70 D50 that was re-topped by Wayne Henderson today. It is a truly remarkable guitar that feels just like the '73 I've owned since high school, but sounds more like a great Martin. It has what must be the nicest Adirondack top I've ever seen. Wayne says the wood comes "from my backyard".

Now I’m questioning my saneness ? This morning every synapse is misfiring . I’m working with one crew yet thinking, why are those guys using that when it should be this and they’re not even part of my crew today ? I’ve been wearing to many hats of late and it’s all merging together in one big vat ! 😂🤣

I've been playing my 1970 F212 today. Just got it back from Tom Jacobs. He did a refret and neck reset and touch-ups on it. I'm not sure what is better than a vintage guitar with a fresh refret and neck reset by a master like Tom-it's playing great-he nailed it. This is a player grade guitar with plenty of scrapes and dings but it has some lovely mahogany on the back and the spruce top is pleasing on the eyes too.

I spent some time last night with my 2022 F40 Traditional. I got it in late 2022 from Tundra Music and was frankly disappointed initially--it seemed tight, quiet, and generally unresponsive. I thought about trying to send it back, but the price was low and the hassle of international shipment was daunting and so I decided to keep it and see if it would open up. I'm glad I did. The guitar now has a sweet, precise tone and is louder (though no "cannon"). The bass, so disappointingly absent at first, has rounded out nicely--it's not boomy at all but has enough presence to remind you that it's coming from a large-bodied guitar. I don't think this will ever be among my favorites, but I like it well enough that I'm contemplating putting in a pickup so that I can use it as an alternative to my D50 Standard, my usual open mic guitar.

Try hunting for some new strings too, Jeff. No recommendations, just try some different ones and see what brings out the best sound for you.

Continued this morning to practice with the Washburn, as the shoulder is still painful. Might also try a dreadnought later just to see, but I think the Guild jumbo is just too big to play comfortably right now.
As an aside, "Blackbird" is sounding better, although McCartney needn't worry just yet.
