I'm not about to bid on either of these, but I have a question :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-Guild-X160-EXC-/220865570506?pt=Guitar&hash=item336c9d26ca

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-Guild-X160-Cantina-Blue-NM-/220865751481?pt=Guitar&hash=item336c9fe9b9

The same seller is selling both, and both are supposedly from 1998 - but was Guild/FMIC building these in Corona already in '98?
The blue one clearly shows a Corona label.
I have a feeling (unconfirmed) the Corona built archtops, X160's, X150's are true 16" guitars, and the Westerly built ones wereactually 17" bodies, despite the 16" description in the literature at the time - and both of these look like 16" bodies to me, as far as I can tell from looking at the pics.

Walter bros,

All I can say for sure is my X-160 Rockabilly is a GREAT guitar. I can't speak for Corona, because mine is a Westerly, but so what? Westerly/Corona, what's the difference? a good guitar is a good guitar.

The price is right in my opinion.

I'll be interested to see what other people have to say

I'm just wondering, I wasn't saying anything about either factory being superior. The Guilds I own and dearly love were made in Hoboken, fwiw, but that has nothing to do with this.

One thing though....he says the pickups are DeArmond 2K mine are DeArmond 2000. He could be wrong or maybe Guild changed the pickups

So what do you think? Do you think you'll make an offer?

No, I don't have the money for that right now, and even if I did, the seller won't ship outside the USA.

I would love to have a black X160 some day, but I can't afford that now.

Hi Walter; unless somebody can say that the 'CB' prefix dates to '98, it's possible the seller is mistaken ... or is just repeating something that somebody told them.

Hans is the man but unless there was a 'custom shop' in Corona making Guild-badged guitars, I don't think there's any such thing as a Corona-made pre-2000 Guild :?

Acknowledging that there are issues with this listing; Guild's guitar dating guide (ends at 1999) doesn't show any X160s after 1994.

I don't think they're Westerly guitars ... or 1998s ... I think they're Corona-made?

IIRC, the Corona guitars went to 16", rather than the 16 and 1/4". Just something I remember reading though.

The blue one is Corona built, probably around 2002 or so. I'd bet the other one is probably Corona built, but no pics of the label.

Thanks guys. John, the blue one has a Corona label, so that's that, can't really be a 98 then, can it?

Doesn't matter all that much, as I'm not in a position to buy anyway. :|

Yes; saw the Corona label. Hans has explained how some late Westerlys have Corona tags but, no, it can't be a '98.

Can't get in trouble for window-shopping :D

Serial number CB000295 in my best guess is from about 2003.

I only found that the 2001 Guild price list showed:

X160 350-8600-........................................................... 2599.99
Rockabilly™ same body as X150 with DeArmond® model 2000
pickups, Bigsby® tailpiece, custom colors, deluxe case
806 Black 833 Metallic Blue 840 Fiesta Red 812 Tennessee Orange

I also found some info (right or wrong, I can't say) here:

Walter,
it could be that LTG member "Century Bob" is the seller of both, or at least that he had both at some point in time, see here, he posted pictures of both on page 2:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10826&hilit=X160+Corona
Confusing however is that he talks about the blue one to be from Westerley and the black one from Corona, that is vice versa in the ebay acutions...So maybe it is not the same.

Thanks, that and Centurybob's post I'd forgotten confirms what I thought - the Westerly guitars were bigger. So if I ever get an X160, I'll probably look for a Westerly made one, as it'll be the same size as my old X175's, big, but something I've gotten used to over the years.
