Real or made up... whatever is funny. I thought I'd made up Starvation Army but I wouldn't be too surprising if I wasn't the only one to do so. I just thought of a real one used by a friend of mine many years ago that I always liked... the Pygmies of Swing.

Not a band but a unique individual...Utah Phillips said that he had to change his name when he got into show business. His real name was Zipper, but he couldn' see picking up a newspaper and reading, "Zipper Opens in Chicago."
He often told that one in performance.

*He left us this year :( and he was a Guild player.

There was (or is) a group called 'Black 'n Blue';

If I recall correctly, I saw 'em open up for Whitesnake (I think) at the Portland Memorial Coliseum, about 1984 or thereabouts.

'Izat your outfit, Steffan??

Second guy from the left was a year ahead of me in H.S. - Thayer I think was his name. I was listening to Elvin Bishop and BB King - I sorta missed out on the whole Glam rock thing....Never understood why guys would want to spend hours in front of the mirror... :D

Hey, I made up "Pickin' Grass and Takin' Names", I can't help it if someone plagiarized it :lol:

(Actually, I never looked that one up, I thought I was being original!)

I did look up another name we liked but it was already taken: "Reckless Abandon".

Well, at least I can still say "we're pickin' grass and takin' names" when we do bluegrass gigs, as long as I don't capitalize it. :D

Back in the 70's I joined up with "Timmy and the Goat Ropers" for awhile. Now their name is "Rawhide Johnson" :D

Aaahhhh, the psychedelic 60's 8)
If we're trippin' down those roads again, let's not forget "It's A Beautiful Day" and one of my favorites, "Moby Grape."

Funny little story about Rawhide Johnson, they asked me to play with them at their 30th anniversary / High School graduation party, (also my wife's class.) They were really peeved when the invitations went out saying "..and providing music for us will be
The Rawhide Johnson" :lol: :lol: :lol: One of the guys in the band said "those knotheads couldn't get anything right in high school and they still can't!"

Has anyone mentioned Iron Butterfly?
Locally, we have memories of Big Rig (my son-in-law's gang), the Prozac Mountain Boys, and the Subdued String Band. All this and more in the appropriately named "City of Subdued Excitement." :lol:
