In order:
Bluesy - The sound of an all hog archback is different than any other guitar I've ever played or heard. Not the lowest bottom end in the world, but a midrange growl that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. It doesn't project like the cannon that my JF30 is, but it does project, but in a muted sense. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but that volume is very projected and within a very narrow tonal range. Highs are clear and shimmer slightly, but I've got 12s on her. If I had some 11s I think I'd get a little more upper end. I don't know what the arch does for the tone, but it is eerie, especially tuned to all Gs and Cs (think Zeppelin's Rain Song). Tuned that way she's the closest thing I've ever heard to a bagpipe and does a dirge very well.
Daryll - Every so often i see one for sale. My understanding is that D16s and D17s are the same guitars with more bling. I like mine unadorned. As for gloss, mine is Wood Grain Red and to my eye it looks glossy, but then again I'm damn near blind, so who knows.
Steffan - Mine is the opposite. What attracted me to the D15 in the first place was the neck. It's like my old Big Daddy baseball bat, huge, which is what I like.
Dave - I'm always looking, but I'm not always funded, and the guitars compete with the cameras, the motorcycle, and traveling for funds. But I'll always look.
When I get back to the house I'll post a couple of photos.
cheers
