That’s called extortion.

I did not mean it that way - but now that you mention it - my previous sentence looks like I'm suggesting such act.

I was not - simply bad wording.

@Canard has made it clear that he has no such intentions - and I have made it clear in my earlier posts that I respect that.

After reading some posts again - so it has been unplayed most of it's life.

Are there discussions in LTG about artificially activating the top wood by exposing it to sound?

Some suggested putting it in front of speaker and blasting heavy metal - Baden Powell - etc - I would do that a bit different.

I would take a 5 inch speaker and place it over soundhole facing the guitar - magnet up. Then tighten the strings to normal tension. Connect to amp feeding music. This way the coupling would be more effective than standing in front of speaker cabinet. Since the top needs most activation - the guitar could even be placed into it's case w open lid - or closed enough. Then set the whole contraption into closet for a week or month or whatever it takes - IF it is even going to work.

That way the sound level in the room could be tolerable.

Just my 2€-cents - no actual knoledge about the subject - but nothing to loose either - except max 5USD for the speaker.

Well, since it's a classical, perhaps Baden Powell?

When I grow up I want to play like that guy.

Hmmm .... Dunno ... Your avatar looks a bit sketchy. If I met it in a dark alley and it asked for my wallet, I'd hand it over. ;)

Yes.

I wonder if a Tone Rite or Tone Traveler would do anything?

A new line to try on wife while blasting away on acoustic, best shouted "I'm altering the molecular structure of the wood, creating a richer, sweeter, and louder tone." Maybe leave out the part about louder.

I'll post results after working up the nerve to try it, if I can still type.

The trolls from my background are less cute and considerably more dangerous. Maybe I could leave the guitar on a bridge in Møre og Romsdal and let the trolls work on it.

Yes.

For mere pennies a day this man will play the Baden Powell soundbook on your classical guitar until it's opened up.
One way or the other.

high-end bigish-name luthier-made acoustic guitar.

When I first read that I imagined a single person who was making instruments and using their name as a brand. Maybe as the enterprise expanded the "name" supervised apprentices or helpers but I still had a sense that the "name" had a hand in every instrument sold under their name. It now seems that the enterprise has expanded to the point that the "name" is no longer personally responsible or involved. If that is the case then my expectations for a resolution where the "name"/maker stands behind the product to "make things right" (or protect their reputation) have been lowered.

I would just give it to a kid who wants a guitar. Who knows? The kid and his folks may love it and be eternally grateful to you. You could just tell them you bought the guitar sight unseen, and never bonded with it.

Or, donate it to an organization like Guitars For Vets, or some other worthy charity.

Someone else may think the guitar is perfectly fine, even if you did not.

It is almost two weeks now, and I have heard nothing from the manufacturer. I suspect that I am being ignored.

So I have contacted the city museum in the city where the guitar was made and offered it to them for their collection if they want it. It would look lovely on display, and it would be out of circulation.

That is a wonderful idea!

I have received a reply from the museum's head of acquisitions, a reply which is generally favourable in its tone.

She says that the donation offer will go before the acquisitions committee this coming Wednesday, and then she will get back to me.

Fingers crossed.

I waited for a reply with the acquisitions committee decision for quite some time and heard nothing.

Then yesterday, I received notice that the museum has been hit by the plague, and my contact and several other employees were down and out for some time with a number still away. The committee will not meet until March 1st now.

A decision will be made then.

Fingers crossed again.

Thanks for that update.

I wish some of us could play it before it goes away, to see what it sounds like first-hand.

Well, the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly but they do turn.

My donation offer has now passed the first few hurdles.

I am to take the guitar in at the end of March for "temporary deposit." It will be examined, and sometime later, probably in May, the higher powers will make a formal decision about the donation. I suspect this process will be a rubber stamping, since my contact indicates that the lower level administrators do want the guitar. Then, assuming all goes well, the final paper work will have to be done, and guitar will no longer be mine.
