The voice of reason?
Well, you lads have obviously never been to the Highlands of Scotland...the women more than measure up to the splendor of the landscape...but then, I married a "hybrid lass" of Welsh/Scots stock - hearty, a Guild player, a great singer, and a great sense of humor.
G.O. Welcome! Please know that I'm probably the only sane member of this family.....Ha!
As far as 12's - I play F112s in the studio and on the road. I've owned several Dread 12s, but they just had too much sound - too much of a good thing - for my application (open tuning). The small jumbo Westerly F112s (I also have a Hoboken F112 and it's more 'wide open' sounding.) are my favorites. I travel with my road guitars in the SKB 18RW - a great case with recessed in-line skate wheels, a recessed handle for "pull along" - roto-molded with bumpers and SKB will give you $1500 if anything happens to your guitar in this case - above and beyond what anyone else involved will give you. It's solid and, though designed with a dreadnaught in mind, fits the small jumbos well. (I even use one for the M20 with a few extra high-impact foam bumper guards added.)
I haven't found many airlines of any ilk that will do much to alleviate their bad reputation for handling instruments, but this at least has given me a fighting chance and after a couple of years with this case - I've had no problems. I can't recommend the SKB highly enough and at a decent price around $200. That beats the next thing - which is the Calton at around $800 for the case, but with a stirling reputation.
Again, welcome and happy Guilding the lily. dbs
